The US diplomat delivered an important speech at the forum titled “Stories of the US-India Security and Defense Partnership” held recently in New Delhi.

In a statement on June 12, the event organizer, CUTS International, said Ambassador Eric Garcetti emphasized that trade, technology, people and security are at the heart of this comprehensive global strategic partnership.

“Our relationship is not a gamble; it is a commitment and a true friendship, tried and tested. It is not a zero-sum game or a zero-sum game,” but “a mutual trust without expectation of return.”

Emphasizing the common areas as well as the potential of the billion-people country, Ambassador Eric Garcetti affirmed, “India sees its future with the US and the US sees its future with India.”

“Any objective observer will see that,” he said. “We see it in trade, we see it in people-to-people exchanges, and we certainly see it in the security and future” of the two countries.

The US is committed to India for the long haul and the leaders pledged to move forward on technology, defense, startups, technology and space cooperation.

“We want India to be a place where we come, repair our ships, find good jobs and understand each other’s systems and training programs. Don’t take this relationship for granted; treat it as a marriage that requires effort” on both sides.

In an interconnected world, “war is no longer far away,” Ambassador Eric Garcetti said, not only supporting peace but also taking concrete actions to ensure that those who do not play by the rules of peace, the war machine “cannot continue to grow stronger.”

“And that is something that America needs to know and India needs to know,” the ambassador called for a stronger partnership between New Delhi and Washington, forming an “unstoppable force for good in the world.”

The US diplomat's comments come amid ongoing conflicts around the world, including in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip.

The forum is part of a series of sessions organized to foster meaningful discussions on the US-India defense partnership. The purpose of the event is to bring together industry experts from both countries and raise awareness of the growing partnership in the Indo-Pacific region and the wider region, according to a statement from CUTS International.

At the forum, experts proposed focusing on maritime security, space cooperation, ocean diplomacy, jointly building a modern defense industrial ecosystem, and enhancing R&D and joint production capacity.

According to Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Indian Ministry of Defence Vishesh Negi, India and the US are "natural partners in the 21st century" and this partnership "focuses on strong defence and security along with promoting regional stability and ensuring shared prosperity" for both countries.
