Approval of the appointment of two Deputy Prime Ministers Nguyen Chi Dung and Mai Van Chinh

(TN&MT) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung and Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization Mai Van Chinh were approved by the National Assembly to be appointed Deputy Prime Ministers for the 2021-2026 term.


The resolution approving the appointment of Deputy Prime Ministers Nguyen Chi Dung and Mai Van Chinh was passed by the National Assembly on the afternoon of February 18.

With the addition of two Deputy Prime Ministers, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's Government now has seven Deputy Prime Ministers assisting him, namely Nguyen Hoa Binh, Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, Ho Duc Phoc, Bui Thanh Son, Nguyen Chi Dung and Mai Van Chinh.

According to the new Government structure, the Ministry of Planning and Investment merged with the Ministry of Finance to form the Ministry of Finance, with Mr. Nguyen Van Thang as Minister.

Previously, the Central Propaganda Department merged with the Central Mass Mobilization Department to form the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, with Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia as Head of the Department.

New Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung is 65 years old, from Ha Tinh; has a bachelor's degree in construction machinery, a doctorate in economic management; a member of the Central Committee from the 11th to 13th terms; a delegate of the National Assembly from the 14th and 15th terms. Mr. Dung held various positions at the Ministry of Planning and Investment before becoming Minister.

Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, 64 years old, from Long An province, has a master's degree in business administration, an engineer in agricultural economics, and is a member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th (alternate), 11th, 12th, and 13th terms. He held many positions in Long An before becoming Deputy Head of the Central Organization Committee and then Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Committee.

The 2013 Constitution stipulates that the Deputy Prime Minister assists the Prime Minister in performing his duties as assigned by the Prime Minister and is responsible to the Prime Minister. In the Prime Minister's absence, a Deputy Prime Minister is authorized to lead the work of the Government on behalf of the Prime Minister.
