This morning, February 22, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province held a conference to review and meet, commend advanced models in implementing the "People's Border Defense Day" in the period of 2019-2024. Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Dang Quang; Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Border Guard, Major General Tran Hai Binh attended the conference. Speaking at the conference, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Dang Quang praised and highly appreciated the results achieved in implementing the "National Border Defense Day" of agencies, units, localities, armed forces and people in the province over the past 5 years. Thereby, contributing greatly to the cause of building and protecting national border security and sovereignty. In order to continue to implement the "National Border Defense Day" more effectively, in the coming time, Party committees at all levels, authorities, fronts, organizations and armed forces in the whole province, especially the Border Guard, localities with borders need to focus on promoting propaganda and dissemination of laws and regulations of the State on border management and protection, focusing on the Vietnam Border Law; promoting the implementation of mass mobilization work, building a people's heart position, promoting the combined strength of the entire political system and people on the responsibility of managing and protecting the national border area; continue to build a peaceful, friendly, stable, cooperative and developing border with the two provinces of Salavan and Savannakhet (Laos).
At the same time, synchronously and effectively implement socio-economic development programs in border areas, especially the three national target programs. The Provincial People's Committee, departments, branches and localities need to develop programs and projects to prioritize investment, promote internal resources, exploit all potentials and advantages to develop socio-economy, improve and enhance the material and spiritual life of people in border areas; pay attention to, support and accompany the Border Guard force in managing, protecting and helping people in border areas to improve their lives.
For the provincial Border Guard, it is necessary to continue to focus on thoroughly grasping and maintaining the implementation of border management and protection work according to the provisions of law; effectively maintain mass movements to participate in border protection, build the grassroots political system, develop the socio-economy, strengthen and consolidate national defense - security, and foreign affairs in the border area.

Reporting at the conference, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong said that after 5 years of implementing "National Border Guard Day", it has contributed to changing and raising awareness of local Party committees, authorities at all levels, departments, organizations, armed forces and people of all ethnic groups in the whole province towards the cause of managing and protecting the national border; paying attention and taking care of building a comprehensively developed border area, and the provincial Border Guard force is strong in all aspects.
The results of the implementation of the "National Border Defense Day" have contributed to maintaining political stability, improving the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the grassroots political system; developing the socio-economy, improving the material and spiritual life of people in border areas, seas and islands; mobilizing the strength of the masses to participate in activities to maintain territorial sovereignty, political security and social order and safety in border areas; firmly consolidating the great national unity bloc, maintaining and enhancing the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

To date, the Border Guard force on the two border lines has launched 206 self-managed security and order teams with 1,630 members; 1,010 households have registered to participate in self-managing the 177.929 km long border and 72 landmarks, 15 auxiliary markers; 51 self-managed teams for boats and safe harbors with 869 boats and 2,209 crew members participating.
Coordinated to organize patrols and clear border markers with 794 sessions/5,478 officers, soldiers and people participating. Thereby, detected, prevented and handled 2,486 cases/8,789 subjects, fined 21.9 billion VND, prosecuted 60 cases/140 subjects for organizing brokerage and assisting illegal entry and exit activities. Over the past 5 years, the provincial Border Guard force has built 120 "Warm houses for the poor on the border" and 24 civil works with a total amount of over 9 billion VND; presented 11,234 gifts worth nearly 4 billion VND; opened 9 literacy classes with 264 students; strengthened foreign propaganda work, coordinated bilateral patrols, effectively maintained the twinning activities of residential clusters on both sides of the border...

At the conference, the Vietnam Border Guard Command awarded certificates of merit to La Lay International Border Gate Border Guard Station and 5 individuals; the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 15 collectives and 28 individuals for their outstanding achievements in implementing the "People's Border Guard Day" in the period of 2019-2024. 118 individuals were awarded the "For the sovereignty and security of the Fatherland's borders" Medal by the Vietnam Border Guard Command.
