Increasing value in production through the value chain

Leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development visited the rice production model in the Project at the field of Phuoc Hao Agricultural Cooperative, Chau Thanh district.

Comrade Tran Truong Giang, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Tra Vinh province, said: with the goal of developing smart, circular, internationally integrated agriculture, adapting to climate change, increasing added value and sustainable development... In 2025, it is required to continue restructuring the agricultural sector, ensuring synchronization between sectors and fields, linking production with the formation and sustainable development of commodity chains for consuming key agricultural products. Encourage the development of green, clean, ecological, organic, high-tech, smart agriculture, adapting to climate change, building brands, trademarks and geographical indications to increase competitiveness, ensuring output for agricultural products in the domestic and export markets.

In recent times, the two main agricultural products, rice and coconut, have brought quite high value to producers. Through the implementation of Plan No. 69/KH-UBND, dated August 6, 2021 of the Provincial People's Committee on restructuring crops associated with the consumption of agricultural products in Tra Vinh province for the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030; As a result, many cooperatives, enterprises and production households have built production chains; built export and domestic growing area codes for many products such as rice; fruit trees and aquatic products (shrimp)...

In livestock farming, Tra Vinh has 05 livestock and poultry farms certified with VietGAP livestock farming certificates; 26 livestock farms (08 pig farms and 18 broiler farms) participating in the chain of CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Greenfeed Company and Vietlight Company. In crop farming, 62 domestic growing area codes are issued, with an area of ​​3,968 hectares for various crops (coconut, wax coconut, rice, chili, sugarcane, peanuts, pumpkin, corn, jackfruit, orange, radish, watermelon) and 37 growing area codes for export, with an area of ​​2,904 hectares for durian, mango, banana, rice, chili, jackfruit, dragon fruit, coconut, watermelon, rambutan, longan, grapefruit; at the same time, the Plant Protection Department has confirmed the issuance of 02 new export packaging codes...

In 2025, the province will build 08 more codes for coconut growing areas for export, with an area of ​​457.17 hectares and 01 code for papaya growing for export to the EU, with an area of ​​02 hectares. At the same time, industrial property rights will be established: the Department of Intellectual Property has granted a certificate of protection for the Geographical Indication of Tra Vinh Wax Coconut and 06 certification trademarks (Tra Vinh Shrimp, Tra Vinh Crab, Tra Vinh Organic Rice, Long Hoa - Hoa Minh Organic Shrimp, Tra Vinh Dragon Fruit, Tra Vinh Grapefruit) have been established.

With the province's annual rice production area of ​​over 202,000 hectares; output of over 1.1 million tons/year. From the 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop, Tra Vinh will implement the Project "Sustainable development of 01 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" (Project) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The Project is considered an important step to improve the efficiency of agricultural production and protect the environment.

Thereby, supporting farmers to apply modern farming technology such as water-saving irrigation systems, smart agricultural machinery and rice varieties with good resistance to climate change. Encouraging the application of emission-reducing farming methods, such as reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, rational straw management and using organic fertilizers. Forming a sustainable value chain, connecting farmers with businesses inside and outside the province to build a sustainable supply chain, ensuring stable output for high-quality rice products; building a typical rice brand of Tra Vinh, creating added value in the market...

Particularly in the winter-spring rice crop of 2024 - 2025, the rice production area in the project has been planted with 883.5 hectares, exceeding the plan by 20.8%; including 02 pilot models of 98.4 hectares and 14 replicated models of 785.1 hectares (Cang Long district 69.5 hectares, Cau Ke 105.5 hectares, Tieu Can 210 hectares, Chau Thanh 215 hectares, Cau Ngang 70 hectares and Tra Cu 115 hectares).

Farmer Thach Rich, Hamlet 3, Phong Phu Commune, Cau Ke District said: this is the first rice crop of members of Dan Tien Agricultural Cooperative participating in production under the Project (50ha); his family alone participated in 2.5ha with OM 5451 rice variety. With the current stable rice price, producers who want to achieve more added value on rice need to participate in the Project, first of all helping farmers reduce production costs (fertilizers, pesticides, seeds...) to increase profits and improve the agricultural production environment (reduce greenhouse gas emissions), protect health...

In addition to rice, from the end of 2023 until now, the efficiency of coconut trees for farmers is quite high (average value of 20 million VND/month/ha). Currently, the coconut tree area of ​​the province is more than 27,500ha (of which, 5,237ha of coconut area has been certified organic and is consumed by enterprises such as Betrimex Company (Ben Tre); Asia Coconut Processing Joint Stock Company; Tra Bac Joint Stock Company...). Granting 29 growing area codes (coconut trees), of which 10 growing area codes for export/area of ​​1,392ha and 02 coconut packaging facilities for export to China.

Talking about the linkage model in purchasing coconuts from farmers, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tuan Hang Agricultural Cooperative, Tan Hoa Commune, Tieu Can District said: Currently, coconut growers are very excited, with the price of dry coconuts increasing quite high and Chinese customers setting up coconut purchasing points in Ben Tre with many export contacts... For organic coconuts, the cooperative is currently assigned by Asia Coconut Processing Joint Stock Company to purchase organic coconuts in Tan Hoa and Tan Hung communes (with a list of households participating in coconut growing) always ensuring a price 5% higher than the market price.
