TPO – Discovering a strange animal in her garden, Ms. Nguyen Thi Song (residing in Phu Thuong Ward, Hue City) captured it and called the forest rangers to hand it over. Through inspection by the authorities, this is a rare large land turtle species listed in the Vietnam Red Book.
On the afternoon of August 28, information from the Forest Protection Department of Thua Thien-Hue province said that the wildlife protection force in the province had just received a rare and precious large land turtle voluntarily handed over by a local resident.

Previously, the turtle was discovered by Ms. Nguyen Thi Song (residing in Phu Thuong Ward, Hue City) in her garden. Suspecting it to be a rare wild animal, Ms. Song captured it and reported it to the authorities via the hotline to hand it over, with the wish to release it back into the natural environment.
Upon receiving the report, the forest rangers inspected and received this large land turtle.
The giant land turtle (also known as the golden lotus turtle) has the scientific name Heosemys grandis. This is an animal species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and needs to be strictly preserved and protected according to the provisions of law.
This turtle species has a suitable habitat for semi-aquatic habitats, rivers, streams, rice fields... In the world, large land turtles are distributed in Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia. In Vietnam, large land turtles are distributed in Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc...
