The Japanese business delegation, consisting of about 230 members, is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping or Premier Li Qiang to explore bilateral economic cooperation in areas such as digital technology and decarbonization.
The purpose of the trip, which starts tomorrow, February 16, is to explore a better business environment in China amid rising trade tensions between the country and the United States.
In Beijing, the delegation is also scheduled to meet with senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission.
The delegation was headed by Mr. Masakazu Tokura, Chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and Mr. Ken Kobayashi, Head of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Japanese business delegation arrived in the country just days after the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China released a new survey, showing that 58% of Japanese companies surveyed in China said they plan to increase or maintain investment in the country, one of their most important markets globally.
Keidanren and several associations have organized annual business delegations to visit China since 1975. The most recent trip took place in January 2024, the first since September 2019 after a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Premier Li Qiang met with the delegation leaders.
Keidanren is Japan's largest economic federation, comprising 1,542 Japanese companies, 106 national industrial associations, and regional economic organizations for all 47 prefectures (as of April 1, 2024). |
