" Ukraine's invitation to join NATO is essential for our existence," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The comments came shortly after the Ukrainian leader met with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and European Council President Antonio Costa.

Ukraine faces a harsh winter as Russia attacks its power grid and Kiev forces lose ground on the front lines. Questions about the future of US aid after Donald Trump takes office in January 2025 could force Ukraine to make concessions in pursuit of a quick peace deal.
Mr Zelensky stressed that Ukraine needed to be in a " strong position" ahead of any talks with the Kremlin and called for " moving forward with NATO" with " large quantities" of long-range weapons for self-defense.
" When we have all this and we are strong, we must put forward a very important agenda for negotiations, " the Ukrainian leader said, adding that the EU and NATO should be involved in the talks.
The President of the European Council informed that the European Union gives Ukraine its " unwavering" support. "We have been with you from the first day of this conflict and you can count on us to continue to stand by you," Mr. Costa stressed.
The new leadership of the European Union wants to show its unwavering support for Kiev at a dangerous time for Ukraine after nearly three years of fighting against Russia's special military campaign.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to attack government buildings in Ukraine with new Oreshnik missiles, after the US approved Ukraine to fire long-range ATACMS missiles at Russia for the first time.
In addition, a Russian drone dropped explosives on a bus in the Kherson region, killing three people. Meanwhile, the Russian army announced it had taken control of two new frontline villages in the east.
