Hanoi: A female student at My Luong Primary School, Chuong My District, did not dare to go to school because of shame, after being forced to kneel, strip, and filmed by her classmates.

Mr. Hoang Minh Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chuong My district, said on the afternoon of May 17 that he had learned of the incident. According to Mr. Hien, the commune police and the school had met with the families involved, reviewed the situation and learned from the experience with the students.

"We are asking for further verification of the incident, clarification of the cause and the school's initial handling of the matter," said Mr. Hien. Schools in the district are also asked to pay attention and catch student conflicts early.

On the family side, Ms. Thanh said the incident happened on the afternoon of April 29 at the My Luong village cultural house. Her younger sister was beaten due to a conflict with three other female classmates. After the incident, the female student showed signs of fear and did not dare to meet strangers. The family learned about the incident through people around her and discovered scratches on her body. When she learned that the clip was posted online, the female student did not dare to go to school for fear of being teased by her classmates.

"My sister's mental state is currently unstable and she cries a lot," said Ms. Thanh.

According to her, her brother had been beaten and bullied many times before and had reported the matter to the homeroom teacher, but the teacher did not take strong measures to deter him. Her family sent a petition to the People's Committee of Chuong My district and the education sector.

Recently, student fights have occurred in many localities such as Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Vinh Long, Quang Tri... On May 15, a 10th grade student at Nam Ky Khoi Nghia High School, Ho Chi Minh City was beaten by a friend and hospitalized. Previously, an 11th grade male student in Nam Dinh died after fighting with a friend.

The Ministry of Education and Training estimates that nearly 7,100 students will be involved in school violence in 2022. According to the Ministry's regulations, disciplinary action for students who violate the law currently includes three forms: warning, reprimand, and temporary suspension from school.
