Recently, a video clip of Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien commenting on the singing voice of the late Cai Luong artist Ut Bach Lan has attracted attention online.

In the video, the 78-year-old female artist said that her senior Ut Bach Lan had a sad, "cursed" singing voice. Recalling the memories of singing together, Dieu Hien once told Ut Bach Lan: "If I'm about to die, don't come sing. If you sing, I'll go away."

The video sparked controversy, with some netizens saying that Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien "spoke rudely" and had an "insulting" attitude towards the late artist Ut Bach Lan.

In a video posted on her personal YouTube channel on the evening of September 18, Meritorious Artist Dieu Hien affirmed that she was not rude to the late artist Ut Bach Lan, and that the above statements were made while the two sisters were joking around.

Dieu Hien said the video circulating online did not fully express her sharing but only edited some sentences, causing misunderstanding for the audience.

In the full version (in the Golden Memories program, broadcast in July 2022), Dieu Hien praised Ut Bach Lan's voice, saying "In 100 years, there will not be anyone with enough technique and breath like her".

"The number one martial artist" said: "I am very sad because I was careless and caused the audience to misunderstand. If I was rude to Ut Bach Lan, God would not forgive me. If you guys heard and misunderstood what I meant, please forgive me. This is also something I need to learn from, not to say things like that again.

But I hope that if the audience posts the video, please post the whole thing, don't cut this part and paste it into another part, causing misunderstandings. I have never said that Bach Tuyet sings better than Thanh Nga. If there is something, I accept it, if there isn't, it's unfair to me.

Ms. Thanh Nga is our senior. We can never sing like her. When I perform a play with the same role as hers, I get worried and refuse to sing.

Sharing more with Dan Tri reporter, Dieu Hien said that she and artist Ut Bach Lan were close sisters, having sung together at pagodas for more than 10 years. During her lifetime, "sorrowful woman" Ut Bach Lan was always admired by her juniors for her talent and virtue.

At 78, Dieu Hien suffered from many illnesses but remained optimistic. She maintained her love for art, occasionally singing with familiar groups at pagodas. Artist Ut Bach Lan passed away in 2016, after a period of fighting illness, at the age of 81.

Dieu Hien was born in 1945 and was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 1993. She is known as the "number one martial artist" of Vietnamese reformed theater, leaving an impression on fans through plays such as: The Peach Flag Female General, General Nhuy Kieu...

When Cai Luong passed its golden age, Dieu Hien gradually performed less and lived with her 5 children in an old apartment building.

In 2014, due to old age and poor health, and feeling sorry for her children struggling to take care of her, she asked the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association to let her go to the Artists' Nursing Home (District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) to be friends with her colleagues.
