Development trends

As a country with potential and strengths in agriculture, facing challenges of resource depletion, environmental pollution, and climate change, the Party and State have issued many policies on organic agriculture and circular economy.

From those decisions, many circular economic models in agriculture and organic agriculture have been applied and brought about efficiency.

As a representative organization of the city's farming class, the City Farmers' Association (HND) quickly implemented tasks to promote the development of organic agriculture, circular economy, and value chains. On May 10, 2024, the City Farmers' Association signed a cooperation program with the Que Lam Group to support farmers in developing organic agricultural production and circular economy for the period 2024 - 2025 to support farmers in developing organic agricultural production, circular economy, environmental protection and new rural construction. Accordingly, the Que Lam Group has invested in building a 4F organic agricultural complex, circular ecology associated with human resource training and organic agricultural value chain, in order to create new momentum for the development of organic agriculture and circular economy. In 2024, nearly 100 households and 4 cooperatives of Hue participated in the value chain of Que Lam.

The Standing Committee of the City Farmers' Association directed all levels of the Association to develop programs, plans, organize training courses, and provide members and farmers with knowledge about ecological, organic, circular, smart agriculture, labor safety, environmental protection, etc. As a result, all levels of the Association organized 75 training courses for 3,750 farmer members in the city, including 25 classes on transferring science and technology in growing lotus; 15 classes on raising goats; 35 classes on techniques for planting, caring for, and harvesting green-skinned grapefruit, watermelon, and green onions according to VietGAP, techniques for planting and caring for ornamental apricot trees, aquaculture, and providing knowledge on traceability for products, etc.

Accompanying farmers

In 2024, the City Farmers' Association provided funding and directed the implementation of 9 models of production linkage and product consumption according to the value chain, and production models according to organic standards for more than 100 farmer members with a support budget of about 400 million VND. At the same time, capital support was provided for farmer members to borrow to develop production, increase income, and contribute to improving their lives. The District Farmers' Association coordinated with sectors to guide and support farmers to build production models that meet VietGAP, OCOP, and organic standards, build net houses, greenhouses, and drip irrigation systems in agricultural production through loans from the Farmer Support Fund, credit institutions, and support model building with a counterpart fund of 50% of the cost.

With the support of the Association at all levels, many green agricultural models have emerged with high economic efficiency, such as growing lotus in the communes of Quang An (Quang Dien), Huong Toan (Huong Tra); growing organic rice in Phu Gia commune (Phu Vang); growing pineapple in Huong Son commune (Phu Loc); raising black apple snails in Phong Hien ward (Phong Dien)...

Recently, many examples of farmers who boldly borrowed capital to invest in barns, combined livestock farming with crop farming, and developed a circular economy have been recognized by the Central Circular Agriculture Association, such as the households of Mr. Nguyen Van Lich, Hoang Tien, and Ho Dang Dinh... Some members who are ethnic minorities in A Luoi and Phu Loc, with their diligence, hard work, and eagerness to learn, have boldly borrowed capital to expand the scale of organic pig farming combined with banana and medicinal plant farming, bringing high economic efficiency, such as Mr. Nguyen Hai Teo and Ms. Tran Thi Hue. Another typical example is Mr. Le Cong Vinh in Quang Dien who borrowed capital, changed crops, and grew organic watermelons, bringing high economic efficiency.

Organic agricultural production, circular economy, and highly effective value chains have proven to be the right direction in the current period. However, this is a difficult problem because old farming practices have been deeply ingrained in farmers' subconscious. Therefore, it is necessary to persistently mobilize, guide, provide technical support..., and funding for farmers to boldly change their production models towards building green agriculture.

In the coming time, the Hue City Farmers' Association will continue to innovate propaganda and mobilization work for members and farmers; seek the consensus and support of Party committees, authorities and organizations at all levels; listen to the aspirations of members and farmers to remove difficulties in the implementation process. Organize training courses for members and farmers; provide appropriate support for organic agriculture models, circular economy, value chains and honor typical examples. Thereby, contributing to further promoting the development of green agriculture in the city.
