The Hollywood Reporter reported in a statement on April 12 that Liane K. Wakayama - Nick Carter's lawyer, denied all allegations made by Melissa Schuman.
"Melissa Schuman has been peddling this story for years, but her allegations were false when she first brought them to the public in 2017. They remain so today. She has conspired to harm, defame, and extort money from Nick Carter, his associates, friends, and family. Her lawsuit is both predictable and pathetic. But this tactic has not swayed Nick Carter from his determination to hold Melissa Schuman and her co-defendants accountable for the pain and suffering their extortion has caused him," the statement said.
Nick Carter and Melissa Schuman are colleagues, former singers and have also acted in films together.
A day earlier, Melissa Schuman, a former member of the band Dream, filed a lawsuit against Nick Carter in the Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing the singer of using his status and celebrity status to seduce, manipulate, and sexually assault her. The attack occurred in 2023, at the singer's home, when the two were co-stars in the horror film "The Hollow".
In 2017, Melissa Schuman sued Nick Carter, but the district attorney's office declined to prosecute the Backstreet Boy because the incident occurred past the 10-year statute of limitations. However, a law passed earlier this year extended the statute of limitations for sex crimes. Melissa Schuman has decided to sue Nick Carter again.
In early 2023, Nick Carter also filed a counter-suit against Melissa Schuman, seeking $2.3 million in damages for allegedly trying to blackmail him for years. In 2022, the singer was also sued by a woman, Shannon Ruth, for rape. The case has not yet gone to trial, but she is also being counter-sued for defamation and extortion.
Nick Carter has been sued for sexual assault several times.
