On February 6, Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School announced the enrollment quota and plan for grade 6 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Accordingly, next school year, this school will enroll 640 students for 2 campuses in Cau Giay and Thanh Tri. The enrollment registration period is from February 10 to April 6.
Regarding the admission plan, this school combines the results of primary education with a survey to assess students' abilities. In which, the school records are calculated based on the scores of the periodic tests at the end of the primary school year, from grades 1 to 4. For grade 5, the school considers the first semester scores of 3 subjects: Math, Vietnamese and English.
Doan Thi Diem Secondary School previously had two rounds of student application forms for admission to grade 6 for the 2025-2026 school year.
In the coming school year, the school will enroll students in English, Literature - English, Math, Math - English, Math - IT, French, Japanese - English, Chinese - English, and high-quality Cambridge and American bilingual classes. In previous years, Doan Thi Diem Secondary School organized review sessions for students who registered for admission on weekends to familiarize them with the types of questions. After that, they will have to take an assessment test to determine their admission results.

Nguyen Sieu Secondary and High School said that this school year, it will enroll 210 students for the Cambridge international bilingual class and the Math and Academic English intensive class. Of which, the Math and Academic English intensive class will not exceed 30% of the enrollment target. In terms of enrollment method, the school still considers and tests to evaluate the students' input abilities.
Regarding admission, Nguyen Sieu School will consider whether the family's wishes are suitable for the school's educational goals; the learning process in primary school; the student's health and psychological testing.
In addition, to be admitted to grade 6 of this school, students will have to take an English proficiency assessment according to Cambridge English standards; a comprehensive English proficiency assessment; and a comprehensive Vietnamese proficiency assessment.
Candidates will have to take a computer-based test, a paper-based test combined with an interview.
Archimedes Education System has also announced that it will enroll 700 sixth grade students for the 2025-2026 school year at two campuses in Dong Anh and Cau Giay.
This school will recruit students by organizing tests in Math, Basic English, Advanced English, Vietnamese, and Advanced Math to assess students' knowledge at the elementary level.
In particular, for the AS standard class, the Archimedes Education System offers the following admission score calculation formula: basic math x 2 + Vietnamese + English x 2.
In addition, this school also recruits sports CLC classes; Physics CLC, Chemistry CLC, Math CLC, English CLC.
In addition, some other private secondary schools also use the method of directly recruiting students based on their academic records, awards at primary school level or conducting interviews.
As for high-quality secondary schools such as Cau Giay Secondary School, Thanh Xuan Secondary School, Nam Tu Liem Secondary School... at this time, there are no enrollment plans.
According to Ms. Do Ha Anh, a parent in Cau Giay district (Hanoi) whose child is in grade 5 and applying for grade 6 this year, said that after the new regulation of the Ministry of Education and Training regarding only considering admission to secondary school, she stopped all extra classes for her child.
However, the admission plan that the schools have proposed shows no difference compared to previous years. That is, students still have to go through the review of their academic records and then take tests to assess their abilities in Math, Vietnamese, and English.
“Whether it is called an assessment or a survey, students still have to take a knowledge test to get admission results to grade 6 and they will still have to continue to take the exam as usual,” said Ms. Ha Anh.
Circular 30 of the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that from 2025, secondary schools will only have the option of selecting students based on admission criteria. For “special” schools with a larger number of applications than the target, the Department of Education and Training must develop a set of admission criteria applicable to all schools; at the same time, there must be separate criteria for schools that, after selecting students based on general criteria, still have more students meeting the requirements than the target assigned to the school.
Individual criteria can directly assess students in many different forms such as: question-and-answer, writing, presentation, practice, experiment, learning portfolio, products, student activities or tests, competency assessment.
