Before winning 4 gold medals in Cambodia this time, Nguyen Thi Oanh had twice won three SEA Games gold medals in the 1,500m, 5,000m and 3,000m obstacle course events at the Games in Vietnam 2021 and the Philippines 2019. At the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, she won 2 gold medals in the 1,500m and 5,000m.
Nguyen Thi Oanh, born in 1995, first participated in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar, where she won a silver medal in the 3,000m steeplechase. At the end of 2014, Oanh suffered from glomerulonephritis, had to rest for treatment and missed the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore. After returning at the 5th Asian Beach Games held in Da Nang, Vietnam in September 2016, Oanh has made steady progress and become the number one star in athletics in the country and the region in the middle distance.
