The person who "passes on the fire" of Bru-Van Kieu folk songs

Mr. Ho Van Tieu recounted that since childhood, his parents taught him to sing folk songs and to skillfully use traditional musical instruments of his people. After many years of working as a leader of local Party committees and authorities, he did not have much time for traditional art, but it still flowed in him. When he retired, with enthusiasm, Mr. Tieu went to each village to encourage people to preserve and promote traditional music and festivals of the Bru-Van Kieu people, thereby creating community strength in connecting and spreading unique cultural values. In addition, Mr. Ho Van Tieu gathered people who knew how to play, sing folk songs, and restore musical instruments to exchange and learn from each other.

With the desire to pass on the traditional cultural identity of the Van Kieu people to their descendants to preserve for the future, the Le Thuy District Boarding Ethnic High School invited Mr. Tieu to teach Bru-Van Kieu folk music and singing to students. The artist's teaching sessions attracted the participation of many students, passing on the "flame" of ethnic art to the younger generation. According to teacher Nguyen Van Vung, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Le Thuy District, in addition to Le Thuy Boarding Ethnic High School introducing Bru-Van Kieu culture to schools, there are also schools in three mountainous communes that have researched and collected musical instruments and indigenous cultural values ​​to introduce and teach to students. Mr. Ho Van Tieu is one of the people who actively helps schools teach these unique cultural values, thereby helping students better understand the traditional intangible cultural heritage of their homeland.

Chairman of Kim Thuy Commune People's Committee Hoang Van Linh said that artisan Ho Van Tieu has made great contributions to the cause of preserving and restoring the cultural identity of the Bru-Van Kieu people in the mountainous commune of Quang Binh. He is familiar with folk songs, how to play traditional musical instruments and often goes to schools to teach students.
