On the afternoon of September 2, artist Binh Tinh solemnly held the death anniversary of his mother - the late artist and playwright Bach Mai. Many traditional theater artists came to burn incense to commemorate her, a talented artist and playwright who left behind many famous theater works. On this occasion, artist Binh Tinh presented 100 gifts to poor artists and theater workers in difficult circumstances.

Playwright Hoang Song Viet recalled that she was famous as an actress at the age of 15 and a playwright at the age of 20. Her contributions to the traditional theater were enormous. Up to this point, there has not been a playwright with a writing ability like hers, writing regularly and with many new ideas.
"The Ho Chi Minh City stage has two families that are attached to the singing profession according to the tradition of "the profession follows the profession", which are Minh To and Huynh Long. The person who built the foundation of composition and staging for the Minh To family is the late People's Artist Thanh Tong, and the Huynh Long family is the late artist Bach Mai. She took on all four roles: troupe leader, composer, director and actress" - composer Hoang Song Viet said.
Artist and composer Bach Mai's real name is Nguyen Ngoc Mai (born in 1948). She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ngoc Huynh, owners of Thanh Binh - Kim Mai theater troupe. Since childhood, her parents raised and encouraged her to follow in the family's footsteps.
At that time, her family lived in Nhon Hoa communal house (Cau Muoi). The theater troupe raised her siblings and fostered in her the idea of continuing her father's career.
Artist Huu Hue said that when she was 15, during the summer holidays, she followed the troupe to Cai Be (Tien Giang province) to perform. One night, during the performance of the play "Manh Le Quan", the main actress, artist Nam Thai, suddenly asked for a raise. Because Nam Thai's husband was an opium addict, if she was not satisfied, she would leave the troupe even though all the tickets had been sold out.
Knowing that actress Nam Thai was pressuring the troupe, she begged her manager, Uncle Tu, to convince her parents to let her take the role.
"At first, my uncle Tu was worried and did not agree, but after hearing my sister Nam (artist Bach Mai - PV) sing a few lines in the role of "Manh Le Quan", he convinced the manager to let his daughter take the role. The whole troupe was very worried that night, but then burst into happiness because my sister Nam was successful" - artist Huu Hue recalled.

Traditional theater artists all know an artist named Kim Mai, who later changed her stage name to Bach Mai to make the Huynh Long brand shine. Although she was "young and talented", she did not rely on her mother, but always improved and learned.

With the mission of passing on to the younger generation, she left many Vietnamese historical scripts for her descendants. Currently, artist Binh Tinh has continued her path, as a director, an actress, and also the head of the troupe. This year, she took artists to France for a tour, and will soon tour the US.
