The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment responds to the National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in 2023

*The National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control 2023 takes place from May 15-22, with the theme "From response to early action"*

The National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in 2023 will take place from May 15-22, with the theme "From response to early action". The objective of the Week is to enhance communication and information, improve community capacity; raise the spirit and responsibility of all levels and sectors from central to local levels in natural disaster prevention and control; prepare response plans for natural disasters in 2023 and promote the role and responsibility in the year Vietnam chairs the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management.

Based on the assigned functions, tasks and objectives, the theme of the National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in 2023, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment requests units under the Ministry to organize appropriate activities in response to the National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control such as: hanging banners and slogans to promote the National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in 2023 and celebrating the Traditional Day of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in Vietnam; raising responsibility for natural disaster prevention and control within the scope of management.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment requested the General Department of Hydrometeorology to develop a plan to respond to the National Week on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control with appropriate and effective activities.

At the same time, the General Department directed regional hydrometeorological stations and specialized units to improve the quality of forecasting, warning and prevention of natural disasters; closely monitor weather developments and natural disasters to ensure regulations on forecasting, warning of natural disasters, and levels of natural disaster risks; provide timely and accurate information and bulletins on natural disaster forecasts to serve the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control as well as the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and all levels of sectors.

In addition, the General Department proactively coordinates to provide information and regularly and promptly disseminate information on mass media about dangerous weather conditions, impact forecasting and warning of natural disaster risks, contributing to raising awareness of proactively receiving information to effectively serve the prevention and mitigation of natural disaster risks.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment also requested press and media units under the Ministry to promote, diversify and promptly conduct propaganda and communication activities on the organization of response to the National Week on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in 2023; raise awareness and responsibility of all classes of people in natural disaster prevention and control to build a safe society against natural disasters, contributing to sustainable development activities.
