On January 8, Comrade Do Van Tuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province (Vietnam) held talks with Comrade Li Chaolin, Deputy Mayor of the People's Government of Dongxing City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China) to discuss the coordination mechanism for natural disaster prevention at the Bac Luan border river and related contents.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the framework for coordination in natural disaster prevention and control at the Bac Luan border river and important contents on cooperation in meteorological observation and surveillance, information sharing on the current status of natural disasters, and response to unusual natural disasters in the Bac Luan Vietnam-China border river area.
Dongxing (China) proposed to discuss and cooperate in the following directions: Establishing a cross-border meteorological data sharing mechanism; raising awareness and disaster prevention capacity for local communities; promoting research and academic exchanges on meteorology between the two cities.
In the work of preventing meteorological disasters on the Bac Luan River, a mechanism for sharing information on extreme weather conditions between the two cities will be established; a mechanism for scientific dissemination cooperation on meteorological disaster prevention will be established ; and a mechanism for regular consultations on meteorological disaster prevention will be established.
This helps to minimize damage caused by natural disasters, contribute to ensuring the safety of people's lives and property, and promote stable economic and social development of both sides.
At the meeting, the two sides reached a common understanding on the coordination mechanism for natural disaster prevention at the Bac Luan border river (Dong Hung - Mong Cai section). After the meeting, the two sides will report to the competent authorities for early direction and unified implementation.
Dongxing City (China) and Mong Cai City (Vietnam) are mountains next to mountains, rivers next to rivers, sharing the same Bac Luan River and farming and exploiting aquatic products in the Gulf of Tonkin. This river has linked the two cities into a community with a shared atmosphere and future.
In the context of global climate change, extreme weather events such as storms, heavy rains, and severe cold are becoming more frequent, causing impacts on the socio-economic development of the two cities. Therefore, strengthening cooperation in preventing meteorological disasters between the two cities is extremely necessary.
