Secretary Pete Hegseth's first stop will be Germany, where he will visit the headquarters of US European Command (USEUCOM) and US Africa Command (AFRICOM), "meeting with senior military leaders and receiving updates on operations in both theaters."
The Pentagon chief will also meet with US service members stationed in Germany.
Mr. Pete Hegseth will then attend the NATO defense ministers' meeting and the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Brussels, Belgium on February 13.
Present at the NATO ministerial meeting for the first time, Mr. Pete Hegseth and NATO allies and partners “discussed the need to increase Allied defense spending, strengthen European leadership and expand the defense industrial base on both sides of the Atlantic.”
With the Ukraine Defense Liaison Group, the new US Secretary of Defense will reiterate President Donald Trump’s commitment to ending the conflict in Ukraine through diplomatic means “as soon as possible”; at the same time, “emphasize the need for increased European leadership in providing security assistance to Ukraine.”
In Poland, the final destination of his trip, Mr. Pete Hegseth is expected to discuss with the host country's leaders about bilateral defense cooperation; visit the US military garrison there, discussing their "important" role in the region.
During the trip, Secretary Pete Hegseth will emphasize the importance of strengthening alliances, improving defense readiness, and ensuring that U.S. soldiers remain a force for peace through strength, according to the Pentagon.
