Every athlete is an ambassador

In order to review the preparations of the Vietnam Sports Delegation for the 32nd SEA Games, on the morning of April 17, in Hanoi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung chaired a working session with the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and related Departments, Divisions and units. Speaking at the meeting, the Minister requested that the Vietnam Sports Delegation must be well organized, carefully and thoroughly prepared in all aspects, and that officials, coaches, experts... need to take good care of the athletes so that they can compete with the highest results, complete the tasks assigned by the Party and State, and bring joy and national pride to millions of fans and people across the country.

In the context of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Minister requested the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to focus on ensuring the health of athletes, pay attention to anti-doping work for athletes, and resolutely not let athletes be "involved" in doping penalties after the Games. The Minister requested the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to carry out work according to plan, organize meetings with teams and departments, sign a commitment to fulfill assigned targets, demonstrate determination, as an honorable promise to the Fatherland before departure. Emphasizing that the SEA Games is the largest sports festival in the region, with some sports, the competition results at the regional sports festival will be counted as achievements in the Olympic qualifying round, the Minister said that the SEA Games is the springboard, the premise for Vietnamese sports to attack major arenas such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.

The Minister hopes that the Vietnamese Sports Delegation will compete with the highest spirit, for the flag, the colors, the honor of the Fatherland, for the position achieved at the 31st SEA Games. The goal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is to be in the top 3. With the 2 men's and women's football events, the Minister hopes that the 2 teams will try to compete, successfully defending the championship to respond to the expectations of the people of the whole country. The Minister also reminded that in order to be successful, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation must promote the responsibility of the Head of the Delegation, Deputy Heads of the Delegation, Delegation officials as well as coaches, athletes, experts, etc.

“How can each athlete compete as an ambassador promoting the image of Vietnamese culture, country and people internationally? To do that, we must prepare very carefully, take care of the athletes' ideological work from small details such as costumes, pride when stepping on the podium, the attitude of not being arrogant when winning, not being discouraged when losing, respecting the referee's decisions, having the right attitude when needing to explain to ensure legitimate rights, respecting the opponent and the audience... ”, the Minister directed the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Olympic Committee to continue to mobilize sponsorship and bonuses to encourage and motivate the athletes' competitive spirit.

Although we will have to face difficulties, the goal of U22 Vietnam is still to defend the championship title won at SEA Games 31. All the upcoming opponents are familiar in Southeast Asia. They will have their own ambitions, even to win the championship. No match will be easy. Thailand is still the strongest team. However, we have researched and the goal is to defend the championship title.
