In the middle of Hoa Ninh land, Di Linh district, a farm specializing in growing ornamental plants of the leaf line is selling valuable ornamental products every day. This is also the place where a production association was established, with the goal of exporting Lam Dong ornamental leaves.
Mr. Vu Van Lam, Lam Vu ornamental plant farm, Hoa Ninh commune, Di Linh district, is busy sowing seeds. He said, the ornamental plants look like leaves but in fact, they are grown from seeds.
Mr. Lam said that Lam Vu ornamental garden specializes in Monstera pothos, a mutant pothos originating from South America. Monstera pothos has the characteristic of split leaves, with many varieties from tiny plants to giant, 2m tall plants.

Currently, Monstera pothos is very popular in the market because of its beautiful shape, easy care, and ability to survive in low light environments. Whether in tourist areas, outdoor gardens or indoors, Monstera pothos still lives and grows quite well. Therefore, Lam Vu farm specializes in cultivating this pothos variety with the goal of bringing to the market another easy-going ornamental plant.
Mr. Vu Van Lam said that, looking at the pothos plant, it looks like it has all leaves, but in reality, when it reaches the right size, the plant still flowers and bears fruit. However, in the soil and climate in Vietnam, the pothos plant bears fruit but no seeds, and cannot self-propagate. Therefore, Mr. Lam had to import seeds from the US and Mexico to grow on the farm.
Sowing Monstera seeds is not difficult. After soaking and incubating, the seeds are sown in trays similar to vegetable seeds. After 20 days of incubation, the seeds germinate, after 2.5 months the plants are 12 - 15 cm tall, can be potted and sold as seedlings, Mr. Vu Van Lam shared. A rather special thing is that the seed season of Monstera plants takes place from March to August every year. Lam Vu farm only buys seeds during that month because this is the time when the seeds have the highest germination rate.
According to Mr. Vu Van Lam, sowing seeds is a way to produce seeds quickly, in large quantities, at low cost and with the same standard as the mother plant. Mr. Vu Van Lam imports seeds in large quantities and grows small plants right in Di Linh land because it aims to serve the pothos growing association he established.
“Based on actual needs, my family converted 4 sao of Anthurium to grow Pothos. However, the family's output was not enough to meet market demand. Therefore, I expanded the production link, cooperating with 6 more farmers specializing in growing Monstera Pothos. The farm provides seeds to farmers, then collects plants as well as Monstera leaves cut daily from farmers. The goods are harvested and shipped every day,” said Mr. Lam.
Ms. Dao Thi Kim Thanh, village 13, Hoa Ninh commune, one of the households associated with Lam Vu ornamental leaf farm, said that she received seeds from the farm, planted according to the care techniques transferred by Mr. Vu Van Lam. After planting, about 6 - 8 months, the leaves can be cut for sale. The leaves are divided into different sizes, beautiful leaves cost 6,000 VND/leaf, small size also costs 2,000 VND.
Ms. Kim Thanh said that pothos plants like foliar fertilizers and organic fertilizers and need to be well cared for to keep the plants green and the leaves strong. Her family cuts the leaves every day to supply Lam Vu farm, and the cost is paid regularly.
In addition to cutting leaves, 2-year-old plants can be sold intact to customers. American pothos is drip-watered through a tube, ensuring adequate moisture but not allowing water to accumulate on the stem, which can easily cause rot and leaf spots.
Currently, Lam Vu farm is providing Monstera pothos on social networking platforms such as Facebook and TikTok.
Mr. Vu Van Lam said that he receives orders via social networks, packages the goods and sends them to consumers, and also provides technical instructions to buyers directly via social networks. Selling ornamental plants via social networks has the advantage of reaching a wide range of customers at low cost, but gardeners must ensure that they provide beautiful plants with healthy, green leaves, and build a reputation for their brand.
In addition to selling domestically, Lam Vu farm also exports pothos to the Cambodian market. Mr. Lam said that the Cambodian market also loves this easy-to-grow, easy-to-care-for, beautiful pothos. Pothos is also quite convenient to transport, when it reaches the customer, the plant is still green and healthy. This is also an open direction for Lam Vu farm to widely develop the pothos area.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai - President of the Farmers' Association of Hoa Ninh Commune, Di Linh District, assessed that Lam Vu ornamental leaf farm is a reputable agricultural production facility in the area, has built a product consumption link with farmers in the commune, ensuring the purchase of all products for farmers, and regular payment. Lam Vu's satellite farm-farmer production model has opened a new direction for local agricultural production.
