On February 20, the People's Committee of Ngoc Hoi (Kon Tum) confirmed that a fire had just occurred in the area, burning down more than 300 coffee trees in Po Y commune (Ngoc Hoi district).
Accordingly, on the afternoon of February 18, when relatives of Ms. Do Thi Mai Hoa (31 years old, residing in Dak Me village, Po Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district) were watering coffee on the top of the hill, they discovered a large fire at the foot of the coffee garden.
More than 300 coffee trees of 2 households were burned down.
When the fire was discovered, her relatives tried to pull the water hose to put out the fire, but at that time there was a strong wind and dry weather, so the fire burned fiercely and spread quickly to the coffee garden.
Ms. Hoa said that her family grows more than 3,600 coffee trees that are in the business period. The fire damaged about 300 coffee trees that had just bloomed. All of the burned coffee trees are unlikely to recover.
The burnt coffee was in flowering stage.
Not far from Ms. Do Thi Mai Hoa's garden, Mr. Vu Van Bach's garden (51 years old, residing in Po Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district) was also burned down by a fire that destroyed nearly 30 coffee trees that were in the business period.
In addition, Ms. Hoa also said that hundreds of meters of 3-phase power line of a household passing through her family's field were also burned by the fire.
According to Ms. Hoa, her family has never had any conflicts with anyone. However, recently, a household near the coffee plantation had a land dispute with her family. At the time of the fire, farmers discovered a man coming out of the burned area.
Many coffee trees were burned beyond recovery.
Ngoc Hoi District People's Committee informed that the authorities are currently verifying and investigating the incident.
