Butterfly Dream attracted attention because of its special story, containing strong "boys' love" elements with two main male characters who were "excluded" in an old social environment with many gender prejudices. The film's setting is based on the culture of Chinese families living in Thailand in the early 20th century, creating a perfect feudal "background" that helps push the film to a climax with many conflicts.

Butterfly Dream : A dream of love amidst a fierce family war

The main character in the film is Tian (played by Film Thanapat) - the eldest son of the Song family, one of the most famous in Thailand. Because he is the son of the first wife, Tian was appointed from a young age to be the successor of the family's huge business, as well as to take control of the Ngu Long trading association. Tian's younger brother, Yang (Tong Kitsakorn), has been estranged from his father since birth because of his playful nature and... because he is the son of a concubine. While the two mothers use all kinds of schemes to get the family property for their sons, the two brothers Tian and Yang love each other wholeheartedly, never having any conflicts or fights.

Naturally gentle, calm and very filial to his parents, Tian always had to shoulder the burden of business, as well as prove his ability to lead the guild against hostile forces outside. But behind that mature appearance was a shocking secret that Tian carefully kept hidden: he did not like women.

The two brothers Tian and Yang in the movie

Mrs. Li - Tian's mother, has known her son's true gender for a long time, but in order to get the family fortune, she has worked hard to cover up everything, and at the same time tried to 'eliminate' the biggest threat, Yang. Mrs. Two - Yang's mother also constantly investigated Tian's secret to bring him down in front of the "elders" in the family. It can be seen that the fight for the family fortune in the Song family is taking place quietly but extremely fiercely.

The worries, schemes and selfishness of the characters in the story have made the film almost covered in darkness. But the dream of love was sparked when Tian met Jiu (Jam Rachata) - an anonymous assassin hired by hostile forces to assassinate Tian.

Love starts from the killer to assassinate the boy

Initially, Jiu approached the "target" to carry out the mission, but he had to "turn around" when he realized the kindness in the other person and decided to refuse the assassination. Tian was moved at first sight by Jiu's handsome and chivalrous personality. Thus, the two gradually developed feelings. Although they always had to hide it, they truly had moments of true happiness. However, "same-sex love" was not accepted in the old society, and it was also a long-standing and powerful Chinese family, so this "boys' love" encountered many obstacles and tragedies.

The love story between the assassin and the rich kid in the movie is loved by the audience.

With a quality cast, profound content, and many new aspects of same-sex love, opening up a positive perspective for the Thai "boylove" genre, Butterfly Dream has truly created a "big bang" on the screen, not only in its home country of Thailand but also in many international markets. The film has topped the Twitter trending charts across Asia for many consecutive weeks, stirring up TV ratings charts in many countries.
