Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on the eve of the new year 2025 that he believes the United States will stand by Kyiv in its conflict with Russia.
In a 21-minute New Year's video message to the nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that only a strong Ukraine can ensure peace and gain respect around the world.

“We know that peace will not be given to us as a gift, but we will do everything to stop Russia and end the conflict, which each of us wants,” Zelensky said.
President Zelensky recalled his conversations with outgoing US President Joe Biden as well as President-elect Donald Trump and “all our supporters in the United States.” Mr Zelensky stressed that he believed Mr Trump wanted and would be able to bring peace and end Russia’s military campaign.

"Every day in the coming year, I and all of us must fight so that Ukraine can be strong enough. Only such a Ukraine will be respected and listened to, both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table," President Zelensky emphasized.
Meanwhile, in his New Year's message on December 31, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the soldiers and officers still fighting on the front lines of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, calling them "heroes" and saying that "2025 has been declared the year of the defender of the fatherland in Russia," according to RT.
The Russian leader stressed that the well-being of the people "has been and will remain our absolute value" as he wished prosperity to "every home, every family and our beloved country, Russia".
"When we are together, everything is possible," President Putin concluded in his New Year message.
Previously, in a letter to President Putin on December 30, 2024, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un pledged to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, according to KCNA. In the letter, Mr. Kim sent New Year greetings to Mr. Putin as well as all Russian people and expressed his desire to further promote bilateral relations.
