With the goal of losing 7-8 kg in a month, reaching a weight of 52 kg, Ms. TH spent millions of VND to buy weight loss candy. However, the results were not as expected, she fell into a state of fatigue, lethargy, and rapid heartbeat.

Wanting to have a slim body for Tet, Ms. TH (35 years old) searched for weight loss methods online. After browsing through many advertisements, she was impressed with a type of weight loss chocolate, introduced with the advertisement "fat, fat disappears easily like eating candy with just a few pieces a day, no need to diet or exercise".

The uses of this candy are listed very attractively, such as preventing excess fat, reducing appetite, promoting fat burning, reducing tension and stress, supporting skin whitening, giving smooth skin...

“This chocolate is imported from abroad and is advertised to help you lose up to 7 kg after 2-3 weeks of use. So I bought 2 boxes, each box costing nearly 600,000 VND. This chocolate is packaged in a bag of 40 pieces and has the aroma of cocoa,” Ms. H. shared.

During the first 10 days, she took 2 pills a day to “attack” fat, then reduced to 1 pill a day in the morning to replace her usual meal. However, after only about 1 week of use, she no longer felt hungry but often felt tired, had difficulty breathing, and had a rapid heartbeat.

Like Ms. H., Ms. LN joined an online weight loss group where many people praised the pineapple candy for rapid weight loss, promising to lose 2-3 kg in 7 days without causing fatigue or dehydration. She decided to try buying a package for more than 200,000 VND.

“After finishing a package, my weight did not decrease but increased by 3 kg. Not only that, I also had insomnia,” said Ms. N.

A friend of Ms. Ngoc also used this pineapple candy and always felt thirsty, even though she drank a lot of water, she still did not feel satisfied. Along with that was the feeling of fatigue, lethargy and loss of strength due to not wanting to eat rice.

After reading information about a series of weight loss foods containing banned substances, Ms. Ha and Ms. Ngoc were both concerned and decided to go to Tam Anh Weight Loss Center for consultation and health check-up.

Dr. Lam Van Hoang, Director of Tam Anh Weight Loss Center, said that many people use "miraculous" weight loss products of unknown origin, which are widely advertised on social networks, especially before and after Tet.

It is worth noting that the use of these products is often without the advice of experts and doctors, leading to many unpredictable consequences. These weight loss products have the risk of damaging health, causing dehydration, malnutrition and seriously affecting life.

According to doctors, the Ministry of Health currently only recognizes two types of weight loss drugs (oral and injectable) that have been proven effective and safe. Other products have not been licensed by the Ministry of Health, and some products have even been found to contain banned substances.

The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) has also warned about candies such as Hamer Candies, Coco Curv, Choco Fit, Kimiso Dark Chocolate and some weight loss powders such as Nutriline Thinsline, Nutriline Cleansline, Wholly Fitz... containing banned pharmaceuticals, such as N-desmethyl tadalafil, sibutramine and sennoside. A type of pineapple candy is also banned because it contains two toxins sibutramine and phenolphthalein.

Toxic substances such as sibutramine and phenolphthalein can inhibit the absorption of nutrients and stimulate digestion, but do not allow the body to absorb enough necessary nutrients.

Continuous use of these substances will cause physical weakness, micronutrient and energy deficiencies, as well as severe dehydration and metabolic disorders. Furthermore, these are two banned substances: sibutramine can cause cardiovascular disorders and phenolphthalein can cause cancer.

Doctors recommend that people should not use products that are not licensed by the Ministry of Health to avoid the risk of health complications before achieving weight loss results.

Therefore, overweight and obese people need to be examined and have the necessary tests done to find the cause of weight gain, thereby having an appropriate and effective treatment regimen.
