Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are expected to stay at a Santa Monica hotel where staff were on strike this past weekend.
Maria Hernandez, a spokeswoman for Unite Here Local 11, a union affiliate of the International Workers' Association that represents travel and hospitality workers across the United States and Canada, added that Messi's team was expected to go to the Fairmont Miramar, but the hotel was among 13 hotels where union members walked off the job.
As a result, Inter Miami canceled its reservations before the strike group called on Inter Miami to honor a boycott of about 60 hotels in Southern California due to the lack of labor contracts with employees.

The union also thanked Messi and his teammates for changing their accommodations during the match against LA Galaxy: "The managers, chefs, and service staff of the Fairmont Miramar would like to thank Lionel Messi, the great player, and his teammates for agreeing to leave the hotel and stand with the striking workers."
In addition, the price of tickets for the match between Inter Miami and LA Galaxy is becoming extremely scarce and expensive. This makes the match a record for having the most expensive ticket in MLS history.
According to ticket sellers at TickPick, the average price for a ticket is $690, a 527% increase from ticket prices before Messi joined Inter Miami.
Because LA Galaxy is already a top and popular team in MLS, always packed with fans during matches. This coincidentally resonates with the Messi effect, making tickets scarce.
After this match, Messi will miss at least one match of the Florida representative in September when he joins the Argentina team to participate in two 2026 World Cup qualifying matches (against Ecuador on September 7, Bolivia on September 12).
The match expected to not feature Messi is the home match against Sporting Kansas City on September 9.
