Next to the hut of Mr. Dinh Van Viet's family in Dak Nia commune, Gia Nghia city (Dak Nong), there are 5 compost barrels that are quite carefully preserved. Since 2019, Mr. Viet's family has used plastic barrels to compost fertilizer for more than 7 hectares of coffee and pepper gardens.
He composts bananas, soybeans, and molasses to make fertilizer; he also uses eggplant peels, chicken and cow manure, and composts them with microorganisms to fertilize plants. Homemade fertilizer has helped his family reduce 80% of fertilizer costs each year.
In addition, soil quality has been improved; agricultural product quality has been increasingly enhanced, products meet organic and biological agricultural production standards, and are sold at better prices.
Before watering the coffee for the second time, Mr. Do Thanh An, in Dak Buk So commune, Tuy Duc district (Dak Nong), mixed fish fertilizer with water to fertilize the coffee. He bought fish fertilizer himself and fermented it with yeast. He has been applying the method of self-composting fish fertilizer to fertilize coffee and pepper for many years.
Mr. An said that he composted fish with probiotics and available fruits and created 1,000 liters of concentrated fertilizer solution. The compost can be used for plants after 3-6 months.
Mr. Ha Cong Xa, Director of Bechamp Dak Nong Organic Agricultural Cooperative, said that the cooperative is applying the process of self-cultivating beneficial microorganisms to produce microbial fertilizers, pesticides, and biological fungicides.
The formula for producing simple microbial fertilizers is organic nitrogen integrated from the fermentation process of fish and soybeans; potassium is integrated from the fermentation process of banana and pumpkin stems and fruits; phosphorus is integrated from the process of soaking animal bones, eggshells, snail shells, etc.
With this method, the cooperative has helped farmers reduce costs by about 15 million VND/ha/year for long-term industrial crops.
For pesticides, the cooperative has come up with a formula using garlic, ginger, galangal, chili, etc. This formula is based on the principle of spicy - bitter - hot - microorganisms to create pesticides and is quite effective.
Fungi, bacteria, mealybugs can be eradicated by using nano copper, nano silver or self-replicating microorganisms combined with Tricodema. For sucking insects, you can use the active ingredient Abamectin and tricolor fungus for prevention.
Mr. Xa shared that if you want plants to grow sustainably, you must nourish the soil to be healthy, take good care of the plants, then the plants will grow well, and minimize the impact of diseases. The benefits of organic production are simply understood as good for consumers, producers and the ecological environment.
Through this method of self-producing fertilizers, Dak Nong farmers are gradually changing their farming practices, moving towards production in a more technical, higher quality, cleaner, and environmentally friendly direction.
Products of natural and biological origin have contributed to improving productivity and product quality, increasing product competitiveness in the market, and ensuring safety for consumers.
People apply new scientific and technical advances in production to help exploit natural conditions, regional advantages, agricultural by-products and waste, bringing stable income, aiming at sustainable production associated with protecting the ecological environment.
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dak Nong has more than 29,000 hectares of crops organized for production according to certified standards such as VietGAP, 4C, UTZ Certified, GlobalGAP, Organic...
This is a favorable foundation for Dak Nong to implement the organic agriculture development project with a focus on using fertilizers and soil improvers, pesticides and pest control agents, processing aids, additives, etc.
