2024 Grade 10 Exam Schedule for Specialized School of Social Sciences and Humanities

In 2024, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities will only require candidates to take one specialized subject exam, eliminating three common subjects compared to previous years.

In an announcement on March 27, the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said it would recruit 140 students for four specialized classes. Of these, two specialized classes will be in Literature, History and Geography, one class each. The number of students in a class is 35. Except for Literature, which has increased its quota by 4, the remaining two specialized classes remain unchanged from last year.

At the request of the Ministry of Education and Training, the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities will stop enrolling high-quality classes from this year.

This year, candidates taking the entrance exam only have to take a specialized subject test in 150 minutes on the morning of June 1. The test score is calculated on a scale of 10, rounded to two decimal places.

Thus, the Social Sciences and Humanities School is the school with the fewest number of entrance exams for grade 10. In previous years, in addition to the specialized subject, candidates had to take three general subjects including Math, Literature and English. The admission score is the sum of the exams on a 10-point scale, with the specialized subject multiplied by a factor of two. Most specialized schools have a similar calculation method.

The Specialized School of Social Sciences and Humanities still does not give priority points to candidates. However, for those with the same admission score and at the bottom of the list, the school will give priority to candidates with provincial-level excellent student awards (the subject must be a subject in the specialized exam), then candidates with IELTS from 4.5 or higher, or other equivalent certificates, and finally consider the average score of the Foreign Language subject of 7 semesters (except semester II of grade 9).

Conversion table of international English certificates of the school:

IELTS TOEFL ITP TOEFL iBT
6.5-8.0 627 95
5.5-6.0 543 72
4.5-5.0 460 45

Candidates can register for the exam from April 15 to May 8. Results will be announced before June 28. The exam fee is 450,000 VND.

Previously on March 18, the school announced the exam structure of three specialized subjects.

In previous years, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities recruited about 170 students and received 1,600 applications. The competition rate for the Literature class was always the highest, usually over 1/10. The other two classes were around 1/8-1/9.

Last year, the Literature class had the highest standard score of 34.6/40 points, the remaining classes had 4 points lower.

The High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities was established in October 2019. This is the fourth high school under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, enrolling students independently from the 10th grade exam of the Department of Education and Training.
