According to historical records, in 1328, Navy Admiral Le Van Dat (during the Tran Dynasty) was the one who discovered the islands with nests in the Binh Khang sea area (today's Yen Island). He is honored as the founder of the Vietnamese bird's nest industry. In 1793, in the war to protect the sovereignty of the territorial waters and the swallow islands, Grand Admiral Le Thi Huyen Tram and An Phu Su Binh Khang Le Van Quang heroically sacrificed their lives. The people honored Le Thi Huyen Tram as the Holy Mother of the Swallow Islands and built temples to worship her on the islands where there were swallows. Since then, on the 10th day of the 5th lunar month, local people solemnly hold memorial services for the Holy Mother and the Tay Son soldiers who sacrificed their lives. This is also the day of the Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Festival. Yen Island is home to species such as seagulls and swiftlets. Many visitors expressed joy and excitement at the natural scenery. To visit Yen Island Nha Trang, visitors will join a tour, departing from Cau Da port (Nha Trang). Choosing to travel by wooden boat will help you save costs and have more time to drift and enjoy the sea view. Wooden boats can accommodate 45 - 50 passengers and travel time to Yen Island is about 1 hour. High-speed canoes can accommodate 20 - 36 seats and travel time is only about 30 - 45 minutes.
