The 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival honors Vietnam

The 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival in 2025 promises to attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to Buon Ma Thuot city and Dak Lak province, a land of sunshine and wind and the world-famous land of robusta coffee.

The 2025 Coffee Festival with the theme "Buon Ma Thuot - Destination of World Coffee" will take place from March 9 to 13 in Buon Ma Thuot city and several localities in Dak Lak province.

At the press conference to introduce the event on the morning of February 12 in Hanoi, a representative of the Organizing Committee said that the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival in 2025 is a practical activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Buon Ma Thuot Victory Day, the liberation of Dak Lak province (March 10, 1975 - March 10, 2025), opening the general offensive and uprising in the Spring of 1975, liberating the South, unifying the country; this is also an important event, contributing to promoting the Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand, building the image of Buon Ma Thuot city as the "Coffee City of the World".

A special feature of the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival in 2025 revealed by the Organizing Committee is the presence of the Executive Director General of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) Vanusia Nogueira at the Opening Ceremony and recognition of Vietnam as the land of robusta coffee.

The Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee's coordination with the Central Ministries, branches, and the Central Highlands provinces in organizing the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival in 2025 is considered by industry insiders to be an important trade promotion activity to help domestic and foreign enterprises promote their products, link the development between production and export, expand markets and cooperate in investment to maximize internal strength, improve the effectiveness of international cooperation, mobilize external resources, and create conditions for the economy to develop rapidly and effectively.

The Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival also contributes to enhancing the position of the Vietnamese coffee industry in the international arena and promoting the socio-economic development and tourism of Dak Lak province; honoring coffee growers, processors and traders; introducing tourism potential, promoting investment in the field of coffee and agricultural products.

Through this, we will introduce and promote the traditional culture of ethnic minorities, especially the "Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space", an oral masterpiece and intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Ha, Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, believes and hopes that the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival in 2025 will be a good opportunity for managers, businesses and friends around the world to meet, exchange and cooperate in business, contributing to promoting the Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand, promoting investment, connecting trade, developing tourism, introducing unique images of coffee culture, people, potentials and strengths of the province, creating an image of a dynamic, friendly, polite and hospitable Dak Lak.

Buon Ma Thuot is known as the "coffee capital" of Vietnam, because its coffee growing area and output rank first in the country, with about 210,000 hectares, with an annual harvest of more than 520,000 tons, accounting for more than 30% of the national output. In the 2023-2024 coffee crop, Dak Lak province exported 264,404 tons of coffee, accounting for 17.9% of the country; export turnover reached 915.795 million USD, an increase of 168.238 million USD compared to the previous crop, accounting for 16.9% of the country.

In recent years, due to the impact of climate change, increasingly extreme weather and unstable coffee prices on the market, coffee production is no longer as favorable as before, but farmers in the coffee capital are still attached to this main crop.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Ha proudly shared that Dak Lak province's coffee products have been exported to hundreds of countries and territories around the world, always playing an important role in the province's socio-economic development. One of the most important features of coffee is helping coffee farmers escape poverty.

"Coffee can be called a poverty-reducing tree. The proof is that in 1977, the number of poor households in the province was 80%, but now, with the strong development of coffee and some other economically effective crops such as durian, pepper... that number is now only 6%. The 2025 Coffee Festival is also organized in a unique but economical spirit, allocating part of the investment costs to poor coffee farmers," said Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Ha.

Regarding the development orientation of high-quality coffee and specialty coffee, Dak Lak is realizing the roadmap to bring the Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand to reach new heights, becoming a "destination for world coffee". Through the sharing of businesses in the province, high-quality coffee products and specialty coffee are being developed by businesses and coffee growers to contribute to positioning the Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand on the world coffee "map".

In fact, not only are they moving quickly on the path of converting from raw coffee products to deeply processed coffee, Dak Lak coffee production and export enterprises have boldly invested in technology and development strategies, in which, taking the lead in strictly implementing the EU Regulation on the management of import and export of products that do not cause deforestation and forest degradation (EUDR) is bringing outstanding advantages to Dak Lak coffee products.

After 8 times of organization, Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival has become a prominent event of the Vietnamese coffee industry, having a great influence and leaving a good impression on the people, domestic and international tourists. This year, with many new features, Deputy Director of Dak Lak Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lai Duc Dai affirmed that the diversity of the programs will certainly meet all the needs of visitors, bringing the best experiences of Buon Ma Thuot coffee.

Not only inviting visitors to "free coffee throughout Dak Lak province", the Festival also has unique tourism and cultural itineraries such as "Coffee Journey", "Heritage Journey"; "Lak District Dugout Canoe Racing Festival"; "Buon Don Elephant Festival"; eco-tours, cultural tours, adventure tours, experiencing community tourism products in villages, etc. During the Festival, there are also many notable trade events, such as the Coffee and OCOP Products Exhibition Fair; Scientific seminar on coffee industry development; International trade conference - connecting and elevating Vietnamese coffee...
