9X guy passionate about growing orchids

Mr. Nguyen Van Thai, residential group 3, Kien Duc town (Dak R'lap) saw his father taking care of some orchids and they gave them beautiful flowers. The love for orchids gradually formed in Mr. Thai.

After finishing high school, the young man enrolled in a mechanical class to repair cars. However, because of his great passion for orchids, Thai devoted all his time and effort to investing in caring for and propagating orchid gardens. Knowing Thai's passion, as well as realizing the economic benefits that orchids bring, his family initially invested in building a greenhouse, buying seedlings and various facilities for Thai.

Initially, Mr. Thai indulged his passion with wild orchid pots, then gradually expanded to self-propagated species. Currently, Mr. Thai's family's orchid garden has up to 6,000 pots with 30 orchid varieties including: Narcissus, Long Tu, Kieu Vang, Gia Hac, Ngoc Diem, and Den Ro.

Currently, in Mr. Thai's orchid garden, the most expensive orchid pot costs 17 million VND and the cheapest one costs from 20,000 VND to 30,000 VND depending on the size and type of orchid. Mr. Thai shared: "Growing orchids requires perseverance, because orchids sometimes take 2-3 years to have a beautiful orchid. In the past, when I had no experience, I found growing orchids very difficult and had to be very meticulous. But now growing and caring for orchids is also easier. The process of growing orchids today is much simpler than before. The propagation work only requires arranging the substrate, then placing the plants in pots, then taking care of them. It is important that the care process has enough moisture and light for the orchids to grow well."

To sell orchids, Mr. Thai connects with orchid shops to sell them, earning over 100 million VND each year. According to Mr. Thai, in addition to learning from experience, he must have practical experience. Because orchids are difficult to please, difficult to care for and require a large investment. When he sells an orchid pot, Mr. Thai continues to invest in the garden. In the future, Mr. Thai hopes to further develop his passion for orchids, collect many rare varieties and have his successes recognized by everyone in the orchid community.

Start a business with coffee

Witnessing the fluctuations in coffee market prices, farmers were severely affected, including their families. Therefore, in 2020, young man Tran Van Phu, village 8, Dak Ru commune boldly established Dak Ka Fair Trade Agricultural Cooperative with 19 initial members who were young people in the village.

According to Mr. Phu, when he started producing high-quality coffee, he encountered many difficulties because there was not much information about Fine Robusta coffee in Vietnam. However, with the enthusiasm of youth, overcoming the difficulties, he was determined to follow the direction he had chosen. The cooperative produces coffee according to the world's specialty coffee standards and sells it at a high price. The cooperative's target market is Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to widespread promotion, in addition to serving domestically, the cooperative also has orders to sell to France, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, etc.

The success of the cooperative is the basis for him to mobilize and gather many young people to participate in building a high-quality coffee material area. Up to now, Mr. Tran Van Phu, Director of Dak Ka Agricultural and Commercial Cooperative, has gathered 39 households of young people and coffee growers with a total area of over 100 hectares.

The cooperative operates with a full package of purchasing, processing, roasting, packaging and delivering to consumers. Each year, the cooperative produces 50 tons of finished coffee. 1kg of finished coffee costs over 200,000 VND.

Mr. Tran Van Phu said: "The reason I chose to gather young people is because of their dynamism, creativity, and determination to become rich in their homeland. Young people are not afraid of innovation and are ready to acquire new knowledge. When they have succeeded, they will trust and join in building quality and brand."

According to the assessment of Dak R'lap District People's Committee, the coffee production model of Dak Ka Fair Trade Agricultural Cooperative is operating effectively, demonstrating the youthfulness of the youth, the courage to think and dare to do.

In the process of developing cooperative economy in the district, dynamic young people quickly access scientific and technical knowledge, apply advanced technology and scientific working methods.

The cooperative not only creates jobs for local people and increases income for farmers, but also inspires and spreads the entrepreneurial spirit and solidarity among the youth of Dak R'lap district.

Support youth startups

According to Dak R'lap District Youth Union, union members and young people on the path to self-reliance and career development have changed their way of thinking and working, promoting the creativity of each union member and young person in economic development, contributing to the implementation of the program of building advanced and exemplary new rural areas and poverty reduction in the locality.

However, many youth union members are still limited in skills, knowledge, production and business capital. Identifying that accompanying young people to establish their own careers is one of the core tasks of the union organization, the District Union has implemented many programs to support young people in economic development; actively coordinating with departments and branches to train them in business start-up knowledge, cultivation and animal husbandry techniques.

In addition, Dak R'lap District Youth Union coordinated with the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to create conditions for young people to borrow capital to invest in production and business development. To date, 500 young people have had access to capital of over 38 billion VND.

According to Mr. Ton Duc Bao, Secretary of Dak R'lap District Youth Union, in recent times, the spirit of self-reliance and entrepreneurship among young people in the area has developed quite a bit. Many young people in Dak R'lap district have successfully started businesses in their hometown of Dak R'lap, helping to spread the startup movement in the area.

The entire Dak R'lap district currently has nearly 4,000 young people participating in activities in 11 commune and town youth unions. This is a young, enthusiastic, creative, confident force, daring to think, daring to do, with the will to overcome difficulties to rise up and establish a career. Currently, the district has dozens of economic development models for young people that have been affirmed, bringing clear results.
