On the morning of April 11, in Dien Bien province, a national scientific conference on “Dien Bien Phu Victory and the cause of building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam” took place. The conference was chaired by the Ministry of National Defense, in coordination with the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Dien Bien province.
Attending and chairing the workshop were General Luong Cuong, Politburo member, Standing member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; and other members of the Party Central Committee. The workshop was attended by nearly 500 delegates who are leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, ministries, departments and branches; generals, officers, leaders of provinces and cities; academies, research institutes, experts, scientists, historical witnesses who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, General Luong Cuong, Politburo member, Standing member of the Central Military Commission, Chairman of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army emphasized: Today's scientific workshop is one of the practical activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2024); an opportunity for the entire Party, people and army to review the tradition of steadfast and indomitable struggle of generations of fathers and brothers, and to remember compatriots and comrades who fought and heroically sacrificed themselves in the cause of national liberation.
“The results of the conference will once again affirm the correct guidelines and wise leadership of the Party and Uncle Ho; the determination to fight and win, the ardent patriotism, the great political and spiritual strength of the nation; the uniqueness and creativity of Vietnamese military art; deepen the stature and historical significance; continue to strengthen the national pride and self-esteem, the absolute trust of all our people and army in the leadership of the Party, the determination to successfully carry out the cause of building socialism and firmly protecting our beloved Socialist Republic of Vietnam,” General Luong Cuong affirmed.
The workshop also analyzed and clarified the coordination of battlefields throughout the country with Dien Bien Phu; of the armed forces and people of the Northwest in particular, and the whole country in general; the role and contribution of the rear, revolutionary bases and the spirit of support and assistance of international friends. At the same time, it emphasized the spirit and determination to fight and win of our entire Party, army and people, as well as the strength of the great national unity bloc, of people's war and the unique military art of Vietnam.
Colonel Nguyen Huu Tai, former Political Commissar of Regiment 209, Division 312, former Deputy Director of the Military Training Department, General Staff - who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign shared: "The spirit of determination to fight and win of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign was not only shown in the battles, but also in the non-fighting days, that is, the times of digging trenches, advancing towards the enemy, digging deep, advancing close to the enemy's trenches, that was the special way of fighting in Dien Bien Phu. We did not retreat before any difficulties and hardships, not only during the 56 days and nights of fighting, but during the previous 3 months we worked hard, pulling artillery in, pulling artillery out... And that spirit was given by Uncle Ho as the flag of determination to fight and win to the units before they set out to fight".
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee, also said: Under the leadership and direction of the Party Central Committee, the Government, the General Military Commission, the General Command, the Northwest Regional Party Committee, the Party Committee, the government, the army and the people of the Northwest ethnic groups in general and Lai Chau province, now Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces in particular, have overcome all difficulties and hardships, contributing human and material resources to participate in the campaign. In extremely deprived living conditions, the people were willing to give food to the soldiers, so that the whole country could go to battle, to give everything for victory.
More than 100 papers were compiled and included in the proceedings, including 9 papers presented at the conference, also affirming the correct and wise strategic policy of the Party Central Committee, headed by President Ho Chi Minh, in leading the people's resistance, as well as the direction and management of the war by the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense - Commander-in-Chief; the process of preparing and building forces, ensuring logistics... for the victorious campaign.
Closing the Workshop, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics emphasized: Today's Workshop has supplemented documents, events, and important comments and assessments, affirming and deepening the stature and significance of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory. The results of the Workshop and the Proceedings of this Scientific Workshop will continue to be widely disseminated. This is a valuable research, propaganda, and learning document; agencies, units, academies, and schools in the army need to promote propaganda and education, so that the above research results are fully and more deeply realized in practice.
On the sidelines of the Workshop, on the afternoon of April 10, the Workshop Steering Committee organized a gift presentation to 10 policy families in Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province and offered incense at the Martyrs' Temple at Dien Bien Phu battlefield and A1 National Martyrs' Cemetery, Dien Bien province.
