Attending the event were Politburo members, Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane; Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense of Laos Chansamone Chanyalath; Politburo member, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith; members of the Party Central Committee, leaders of Lao ministries and branches, and many Ambassadors and Heads of international organizations in Laos.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung reviewed the glorious historical milestones of the Vietnamese people, emphasizing that 78 years ago, with a burning desire for independence and freedom for the nation, after the success of the August Revolution, on September 2, 1945, in the capital Hanoi, President Ho Chi Minh - the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people - read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
That great event was a brilliant milestone in history, bringing Vietnam and the Vietnamese people into a new era, an era of national independence associated with socialism.
According to Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung, over the past 78 years, promoting the glorious historical tradition of the nation, the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam have united to overcome arduous stages to protect the independence, national freedom, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland, carrying out the renovation process, from a poor country, heavily devastated by war, to become a developing country with average income, people's lives are constantly improving, with increasingly high position and prestige in the international arena as affirmed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong: "Vietnam has never had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it does today."

The Ambassador emphasized that, following the success of the "Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022", in the first months of 2023, the special relationship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos will continuously develop, becoming increasingly deeper and more effective in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.
Affirming the tradition of close ties between the two countries, no matter how complicated the world and regional situation may be, with the efforts and determination of the leaders and people of Vietnam and Laos, the Vietnam-Laos relationship will continue to blossom and bear fruit, bringing benefits to the people of each country, for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung emphasized that in order for Vietnam and the Vietnam-Laos relationship to achieve the above great and sustainable achievements, in addition to the efforts of each country, Vietnam always receives solidarity, support and great help from friendly countries and international organizations.
On behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung expressed his sincere thanks and deep gratitude for that valuable support and assistance; hoping that countries and international organizations will continue to provide more support and assistance to help Vietnam as well as the Vietnam-Laos relationship develop sustainably, contributing positively to the building of the ASEAN Community, maintaining peace, security, stability and cooperation for development in the region and the world.
In a joyful, warm and fraternal atmosphere, Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung, together with Lao leaders and guests, raised a glass to celebrate the achievements of the Party, State and people of Vietnam over the past 78 years.

Sharing with reporters in Laos, Venerable Thich Minh Quang, Abbot of Phat Tich Pagoda in the capital Vientiane, said that 78 years ago Vietnam was still very poor and facing difficulties, but now the country is relatively stable.
Venerable Thich Minh Quang said that the stable economy and politics are the proof and achievement of an independent country; affirming that Vietnam has the prosperous foundation it has today thanks to the policies of the Party and State in all periods, all aiming at one goal: for the people.
Having lived and worked in Laos for 20 years, Ms. Phan Thi Ngoc, an overseas Vietnamese living in the capital Vientiane, said that every year, even when things were very difficult, she arranged to return home to visit and each time, she was extremely proud of the remarkable changes in the country.
Ms. Ngoc said that this change is most clearly reflected in the appearance of the country from both rural and urban areas, with a series of large and beautiful architectural works springing up everywhere, strongly developed infrastructure, clean and spacious roads and villages, and increasingly civilized people's lives.
Commenting on this issue, Mr. Pham Van Hung, Chairman of the General Association of Vietnamese People in Laos, said that over the past 78 years, Vietnam has achieved remarkable development achievements, the country is increasingly strong, and its voice is increasingly respected in the international arena.
According to Mr. Hung, as a person living far away from home, he feels very happy, proud, admiring and respectful of the country's development, affirming that this foundation is the merit and achievement of the Party, the State and the leaders through the periods, along with the consensus and joint efforts of all Vietnamese people.
Venerable Thich Minh Quang, Ms. Ngoc and Mr. Hung all expressed their joy when the Vietnamese Party and State have policies that pay special attention to the Vietnamese community abroad, which not only creates favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to live in the host country as well as return to their homeland, but also helps build a bloc of solidarity at home and abroad, helping overseas Vietnamese always turn towards their homeland and fatherland.
