The 17th session of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council will consider and decide on many important socio-economic issues.

At the opening session of the meeting, Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, presented a report on the socio-economic development results in the first 6 months of the year.

Accordingly, the socio-economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City in the first 6 months of the year has achieved some positive results: the total product in the area (GRDP) is estimated to increase by 6.46% over the same period; Total retail sales of goods increased by 8.8%. Export turnover is estimated at 26.67 billion USD (up 10.34%); import turnover is estimated at 27.7 billion USD (up 5.18%).

The industrial production index (IIP) increased by 5.5%; the number of newly established enterprises is estimated to increase by 9.6%; budget revenue of VND 269,000 billion reached over 55% of the plan, up 18% over the same period.

At the meeting, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee submitted 18 proposals to the City People's Council for consideration and approval of Resolutions related to the fields of economy, urban, culture - society, education... in the city.

Including: Regulations on environmental protection fees for mineral exploitation. Issuing a list of projects requiring land acquisition for socio-economic development in 2024. Tuition fees for public preschool and general education from the 2024-2025 school year and subsequent school years. Arranging commune-level administrative units for the 2023-2030 period...

There are also contents on adjusting the regular expenditure estimates of the city budget in 2024; supplementing the revenue and expenditure estimates of the city budget in 2024...

Also at the meeting, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee presented the Project on developing the Ho Chi Minh City urban railway system according to Conclusion 49 of the Politburo on the orientation for developing Vietnam's railway transport to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Accordingly, the Project aims to achieve a public passenger transport rate of 15-20% by 2030, 40-50% by 2035, and 50-60% after 2035.

Speaking at the opening session of the meeting, Politburo member and Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen assessed that although the city's socio-economic performance in the first 6 months of the year achieved many results, many targets were not met and many "bottlenecks" were not thoroughly and promptly removed.

Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen suggested and directed many tasks to be carried out to complete the tasks in 2024, towards completing the entire term 2020-2025. In particular, it was noted that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee needs to specify the Resolutions, Laws, Decrees of the Central Party, National Assembly, Government, creating a legal corridor to implement the city's tasks.

In particular, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Ho Chi Minh City needs to quickly deploy and effectively implement the 2024 Land Law because the field The city's land area still has many problems. Only then can we "unblock" land resources, helping the city develop quickly and sustainably.
