Normally, it is not too surprising that Oanh successfully defended her title in these two categories.

However, the golden girl of Vietnamese athletics had to compete in two events, with starting times only about 20 minutes apart.

Oanh said that right after finishing the 1,500m race, she had to change clothes to prepare for the 3,000m obstacle course.

“I didn’t even have time to relax before I was taken to the 3,000m starting area. The organizers called for a doping test, but I said I would do it after finishing the two events,” Oanh said.

The female athlete from Bac Giang also shared that she felt grateful and proud to be able to complete 2 competitions in such a short period of time.

“My feelings are mixed, but overall I feel proud that I was able to win in such a situation,” Oanh confided.

The 32nd SEA Games champion then thanked her family, teachers and teammates for always supporting, accompanying and motivating her to overcome the challenge.

Thus, Nguyen Thi Oanh successfully defended 3 gold medals in the 5,000m, 3,000m steeplechase, and 1,500m events.

According to the schedule, she will compete in the 10,000m event tomorrow, May 10.
