Industrial parks in Ho Chi Minh City need to recruit more than 10,000 workers

This information was announced by Mr. Hua Quoc Hung, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (HEPZA), at a press conference on the morning of January 24 about the Tet holiday situation and the direction of activities in 2024.

HEPZA predicts that the prolonged economic difficulties after the Covid 19 pandemic will reduce the number of workers returning home for Tet compared to last year. Therefore, the number of workers returning to work after Tet will fluctuate little.

Through a survey of the labor and employment situation of enterprises in export processing zones and industrial parks, it is expected that in the first 6 months of 2024, some enterprises will reduce their workforce.

However, many businesses still have recruitment needs, with a total expected workforce of more than 10,500 people. Of these, nearly 1,000 are university graduates or higher, more than 500 are college and intermediate graduates, and nearly 8,800 are unskilled workers.

In the first 6 months of the year, industrial parks and export processing zones in Ho Chi Minh City need to recruit 10,500 workers.

As of December 2023, export processing zones and industrial parks have more than 252,000 employees, down 8% compared to 2022.

Tet care activities in export processing zones and industrial parks on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024 are quite diverse with New Year's Eve performances, charity markets, and gift vouchers for disadvantaged workers to shop for Tet.

HEPZA also cooperated with the trade union and youth union to organize programs to give away bus, train and plane tickets. Of which, train tickets were given to 500 families from Binh Dinh to Hanoi, 300 bus tickets and airfare support for union members.

The Head of the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City Export Processing and Industrial Zones said that in 2023, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee approved the project on orientation for the development of industrial parks and export processing zones in Ho Chi Minh City until 2030 and vision to 2045. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City's policy is to retain all industrial land funds, only convert industries, not eliminate or convert them into residential areas, housing, commercial services or hospitals.

In 2024, HEPZA was assigned to submit a pilot project to convert Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone and 4 industrial parks (Hiep Phuoc, Cat Lai, Binh Chieu and Tan Binh). The project will determine the conversion policy mechanism, business support, investor responsibilities, infrastructure companies, specific industries, and legal framework for implementation.
