On January 8, AVP reported that the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had carried out a group of airstrikes on military and industrial targets serving military operations in Ukraine using long-range precision weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. The report stated that these airstrikes were carried out by both the air force and the navy.
“This morning (January 8), a group airstrike was carried out using high-precision long-range weapons, from the sea and air, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. The targets were Ukrainian military-industrial complexes,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
In addition, Russian missile, artillery and drone forces launched attacks on personnel and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 108 areas. In particular, the meeting site of the commanders of the 101st Anti-Terrorist Brigade of the Ukrainian forces was attacked.
In Ukraine, air raid warnings were sounded in the morning and lasted for more than two hours. Explosions were reported in several cities across the country, including Krivoy Rog, Dnepropetrovsk and Khmelnitsky.
Also on January 8, Russia launched a powerful missile attack on the Kharkiv region. The explosions mainly occurred in the Kievsky district, which is home to major industrial enterprises. So far, no information on the damage has been released.
Among the companies affected by the January 8 attack were: the Aviation Production Company, the State Research and Production Company of the Kommunar Association, which produces control systems for launch vehicles. The State Enterprise KhMZ FED, which produces hydraulic motors and hydraulic pumps. PJSC Khartron, which operates in the railway sector.
In the current situation of the special operation, it is assumed that these enterprises are engaged in work serving the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so they became the target of airstrikes.
The type of weapon used in the attack is still being determined. According to locals, the explosion was so powerful that it could be heard far away from the city.
