Mr. Nguyen Van Huong said that on the evening of November 12, cold air will affect the mountainous and midland areas of the North, then the plains, then the North Central, Central Central and some places in the South Central. Due to the influence of cold air, from tonight, the weather in the North will have the lowest temperature at night and in the morning of about 16-19 degrees Celsius, in the highlands below 15 degrees Celsius.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that from tonight until around November 14-15, there will be a cold spell, with localized cold in mountainous areas.

Notably, due to the impact of cold air combined with the East wind zone, the North and Central Central regions, then the South Central region will experience widespread heavy rain from tonight until about November 16-17. According to forecasts, the total rainfall in the area from Thua Thien Hue to Quang Nam is 300-500mm, with some places over 500mm.

“With such rain forecast, there is a possibility that the North and Central Central regions will experience a flood, focusing on Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang , Quang Nam and Quang Ngai. The river water level this time is likely to reach alert level 2, alert level 3, and at times above alert level 3,” Mr. Huong noted.

Therefore, he warned that on land, the impact of cold air and rain will cause severe cold in mountainous areas, affecting crops and livestock. Thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can affect agricultural production, break trees, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure. Heavy rain in the Central region is likely to cause flooding in urban and coastal areas such as Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.

At sea, with strong winds of level 6, gradually increasing to level 7, appearing in many areas in the Gulf of Tonkin and the Central Coast, waves of 3-4m high, or even higher, are likely to affect the activities of ships and other activities at sea in coastal areas as well as offshore in the North and the middle of the East Sea, including the Hoang Sa island district.

As for the weather in Hanoi, from tonight it will turn cold with the lowest temperature of 17-19 degrees Celsius and tomorrow night (November 13), the temperature will drop further to 16-17 degrees Celsius.
