NDO - On December 12, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized the Announcement Ceremony and Scientific Workshop under the KC.16/24-30 Program (Net Zero Science and Technology Program). The event aims to widely inform the business community, science and technology organizations, institutes, universities and experts, scientists with the goal of promoting research, development, innovation and application of scientific and technological solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, towards green transformation solutions, circular economy.
In his opening remarks, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized: During his recent working trip to the United States, General Secretary To Lam affirmed: “Over the past time, Vietnam has affirmed its responsibility for the common work of the international community with positive and proactive contributions. Vietnam is considered by the United Nations as one of the leading countries in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. Despite many difficulties and challenges, Vietnam is committed to achieving the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.”

Along with that, thoroughly implementing the Prime Minister's direction on implementing the Science and Technology Research Program to serve the goal of achieving zero net emissions in Vietnam, the Ministry of Science and Technology has coordinated with agencies, organizations, scientists and experts to urgently develop and issue the National Science and Technology Program with code KC.16/24-30, to serve the goal of achieving zero net emissions in Vietnam.
This is one of the quick and timely action programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology in implementing the direction of the Party, Government and Prime Minister. This program will go hand in hand with other national science and technology programs that have been and are being implemented, especially towards green technology, technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the implementation of Vietnam's commitment at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP26).
The Net Zero Science and Technology Program will be the foundation and basis for creating breakthrough solutions in carbon capture and storage technology, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aiming for a green economy, a circular economy, enhancing and improving the quality of Vietnam's living environment; promoting technology development, innovation, creating jobs in the green technology industry, while enhancing competitiveness, promoting green growth and sustainable development in Vietnam.
Minister Huynh Thanh Dat further emphasized that the Ministry of Science and Technology hopes that the Program will be widely communicated to all business communities, research institutes, universities, experts and scientists across the country to work together to research, develop, decode and apply new technologies, green technologies, and technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all industries and fields; join hands to research and propose mechanisms, policies and standards to promote green transformation models, circular economy, green growth, thereby contributing to creating momentum for socio-economic development, proactively responding to climate change that is becoming increasingly complex.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Science and Technology requires the Ministry's functional units and the Net Zero Program Management Board to proactively allocate resources, develop plans and organize implementation in the fastest and most convenient way in determining national science and technology tasks, prioritizing the selection of outstanding NetZero tasks with high applicability and practicality, with the ability to replicate and apply both in breadth and depth to organize and implement with results in 2025.
After a period of focused research and proposals from scientists, technologists and the business community across the country following the direction of the Party and Government, the three main goals of the Net Zero Science and Technology Program have been identified as follows:
1. Provide arguments, scientific and practical bases to propose the completion of mechanisms, policies, standards and solutions to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of State management related to the goal of achieving zero net emissions in Vietnam;
2. Provide theoretical and practical basis, propose models and solutions for green, circular, low-carbon economic and social development, and human resource development with the goal of achieving net zero emissions in Vietnam;
3. Research, apply, decode, innovate and transfer technology, management and technical solutions, advanced science and technology in industries and fields, contributing to management and inventory to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; contributing to the development of green, clean, and circular technology; contributing to reducing consumption, shifting and converting energy; contributing to research, development and application of carbon capture, utilization and storage technology.
The program is expected to create breakthrough solutions for new technologies in industries and fields such as carbon capture and storage technology; greenhouse gas emission reduction technology; green technology, circular technology; management and technical solutions serving the goal of emission reduction, towards green transformation, circular economic model in Vietnam to significantly reduce the country's emissions, improve environmental quality and protect biodiversity; promote technology development, innovation, create jobs in the green technology industry and enhance competitiveness, contributing to the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 in Vietnam.
Within the framework of the event, the main contents are designed to create a multi-dimensional forum, from the Program Announcement Ceremony to the Scientific Workshop and the speeches of the Senior Leaders. The event is not only a place to meet and exchange expertise but also a testament to Vietnam's strong determination in making science and technology the foundation in creating technological solutions, mechanisms, and management policies to promote Vietnam's green growth models through the joint development of the business community and scientists and technology experts, contributing to building a green and sustainable Vietnam.
