Going back in time, in early 1947, the French army massively invaded Mai Son district, many important areas of Mai Son were occupied by the enemy. In response to the requirements of the revolution, to directly lead and direct the revolutionary movement among the masses, people and armed forces, on November 20, 1948, the Son La Provincial Party Committee decided to establish the Mai Son District Party Executive Committee, marking the maturity and growth of the revolutionary movement in Mai Son.
During the 1952 Northwest Campaign, to destroy the French colonialists' Na San stronghold, our army and people continuously attacked, surrounded, isolated, and made it difficult for reinforcements to be provided by land and air. Na San was no longer a steel wall, because Sam Neua (Laos) had also fallen. In a short period of time, from January to June 1953, the number of enemies killed and wounded reached 404, 266 were captured, 218 guns of various types were seized, and many bandit, commando, and spy dens were destroyed. The victory of the Upper Laos Campaign pushed the Na San stronghold into isolation. On August 10, 1953, the French army withdrew from Na San, and Mai Son was completely liberated. This was a great historical event for the people of all ethnic groups in Mai Son district.
After liberation, Mai Son district consolidated its government, participated in the resistance war against the French, and made an important contribution to the historic Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954, in which the Co Noi Junction became a "historical epic" - the most important traffic junction, considered the "throat" on the fire line, the transportation and supply route of the Northern rear for the Dien Bien Phu battlefield.
The North was completely liberated, moving towards socialism. The Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Mai Son district focused on healing the wounds of war, restoring the economy, implementing the first 5-year plan, and building socialism in the early years of the resistance war against the US to save the country. During this period, along with the establishment of To Hieu Farm in 1958 and Chieng Sung Farm in 1962, industrial and agricultural production in Mai Son district changed.
Entering the period of 1965-1975, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Mai Son district both produced and fought, contributing to defeating the destructive war of the US Air Force, building a strong rear and actively supporting the front line in the South. Thousands of children of all ethnic groups in Mai Son joined the army, supporting the battlefield in the South and performing international duties with Laos until the day of total victory and national reunification. With their efforts and hard work in fighting, working and building their homeland, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Mai Son district were recognized by the Party and State, awarded the Third and Second Class Independence Medals; Mai Son district was awarded the Hero of the People's Armed Forces along with three communes of Co Noi, Muong Chanh and Muong Bang...
Implementing the Party's renewal policy, over the past 35 years, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Mai Son have promoted the revolutionary tradition, solidarity, consensus, self-reliance and self-improvement to build a new life, achieving many important achievements in all fields. Mai Son has strived to develop its economy towards industrialization and modernization, becoming a key economic region of the province. Over the past 2 years, the total budget revenue in the district reached over 1,013 billion VND; the total social investment capital reached 2,500 billion VND. In 2022, the total output of agricultural products consumed and exported reached over 152,543 tons, with a value of over 43.75 million USD.
In agriculture, it is a key district implementing the province's policies on restructuring crops and livestock, applying high technology associated with consumption and processing of agricultural products according to the value chain. Up to now, the whole district has 11,000 hectares of fruit trees, accounting for 13% of the total fruit tree area of the province, many agricultural models applying high technology such as custard apple, strawberry, passion fruit... with an income of over 300 million/ha/year; 19,032 hectares of industrial crops, including coffee, sugarcane, cassava... The effectiveness of developing fruit trees on sloping land has brought bright, vibrant colors to the agricultural "picture" of Mai Son district.
