Opening of the 4th week of "Vietnamese Lawyers with the Homeland's Sea and Islands"

With the support of the leaders of Can Tho City People's Committee, departments, agencies, and organizations of Can Tho City, especially the Can Tho City Lawyers Association, on April 17, the Vietnam Lawyers Association solemnly held the opening ceremony of the Photo Exhibition Week "Vietnamese Lawyers with the Sea and Islands of the Homeland".

Following the success of the previous three events in 2020, 2021 and 2022, this year's exhibition week will display hundreds of valuable photos and documents on Vietnam's sovereignty over seas and islands, along with the positive contributions of Vietnamese lawyers in the work of propaganda and advocacy to protect national interests and the sacred sovereignty over seas and islands of the Fatherland.

This is a particularly meaningful event, aiming to introduce to the people, readers nationwide and cadres and members of the Vietnam Lawyers Association the process of establishment and development as well as the positive contributions of Vietnamese lawyers in the work of propaganda and advocacy to protect national interests, the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

At the same time, the event introduced to viewers beautiful, vivid and rich images of Vietnam's homeland's seas and islands; introduced works that are vivid images affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over its seas and islands, especially historical documents, legal evidence and activities affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Truong Sa and Hoang Sa; the daily life of officers, soldiers and people on the islands.

Attending the ceremony were comrade Nguyen Van Quyen - Secretary of the Party Committee, President of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, comrade Tran Duc Long - Member of the Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, comrade Tran Quoc Trung - former member of the 12th Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, comrade Tran Viet Truong - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee.

Also attending the ceremony were comrades representing leaders of departments, branches, sectors, political organizations, socio-political organizations, socio-political organizations and professional organizations of Can Tho City; comrades of the Executive Committee who are Heads and Deputy Heads of the Professional Departments and the Central Office of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, leaders of the Lawyers Associations of the Mekong Delta provinces; comrades of the Standing Committee, members of the Standing Committee, Executive Committee of the Can Tho City Lawyers Association, leaders of the Lawyers Associations of the city's districts and a large number of youth union members, students studying and living in Can Tho City.

In his opening speech, Comrade Nguyen Van Quyen - Secretary of the Party Committee, President of the Vietnam Lawyers Association said that the Vietnam Lawyers Association is a political - social - professional organization of lawyers nationwide. After more than 68 years of establishment and development, up to now, the total number of members of the Association is more than 74,000 members who have been working in agencies of the legislative, executive and judicial branches, political and social organizations and operating in all fields of politics, economics, science, law, society, national defense and security.

Throughout its operation and development, the Vietnam Lawyers Association has always aimed to accompany the Party and State in the struggle to firmly protect national independence, socialism, and protect the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity in general and its sovereignty over seas and islands in particular on the basis of international law...

Over the past years, the Vietnam Lawyers Association has coordinated with relevant agencies, units and organizations, while promoting the position of the largest political - social - professional organization of Vietnamese lawyers, as well as the Association's reputation in the international legal community to carry out many activities towards the above-mentioned goal.

These include organizing international seminars on the East Sea; issuing timely statements at each point in time; disseminating the correct viewpoints and stances of our Party and State on the issue of sovereignty over seas and islands; organizing working delegations to visit, encourage and provide practical support to cadres, soldiers and people in sea and island areas...

With many diverse activities, the fourth photo exhibition week with the theme "Vietnamese Lawyers with the homeland's sea and islands", the Vietnam Lawyers Association hopes that lawyers in particular and viewers in general will have the opportunity to understand more deeply the attention of the Party and State leaders to the homeland's sea and islands; to the cadres, soldiers, people, and fishermen who are living, preserving, exploiting the economy, and protecting the border areas of the Fatherland; about historical documents and legal bases affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over the sea and islands of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

This is an event in a series of annual photo exhibitions organized by the Vietnam Lawyers Association, aiming to affirm the country's sovereignty over seas and islands, contributing to the struggle to protect Vietnam's sovereignty over seas and islands - a sacred and inseparable part of the Fatherland.

With wisdom and responsibility, Vietnamese lawyers are always steadfast in protecting the sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. Resolutely fighting with measures in accordance with international law against acts and violations of Vietnam's sea and continental shelf determined in accordance with the provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

Together with the world's legal community, Vietnamese jurists always demonstrate responsibility and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, cooperation and development of the East Sea on the basis of international law, the 1982 UNCLOS Convention, for the common benefit in accordance with the aspirations of countries in the region and the international community.

Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen expressed his wish that, with the message "Spreading love, sharing responsibility for the homeland's sea and islands", lawyers nationwide wish to share the love, responsibility and encouragement of the whole country for the courage, fearlessness of difficulties, hardships, and sacrifices of navy soldiers, coast guard, and fisheries control forces who are day and night guarding the homeland's sea and islands, protecting the Fatherland.

"I would like to send my most sincere feelings to the soldiers and express my admiration for the resilient fishermen who stick to the sea, despite the dangers and hardships, still go out to sea, exploiting the rich resources from the sea to develop the economy, contributing to protecting the sea, islands, and protecting the sovereignty of the nation," Chairman Nguyen Van Quyen stated.

Through the program of the Photo Exhibition Week “Lawyers with the homeland’s sea and islands”, the Vietnam Lawyers Association calls on all walks of life nationwide to continue to support and create resources to contribute to caring for and encouraging naval officers and soldiers, Border Guards, Fisheries Surveillance, Coast Guard, fishermen and people living in land border areas and on islands; calls on lawyers and people nationwide to always be proactive and ready to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty in the East Sea as well as Vietnam’s land borders; mobilize the combined strength of the great national unity bloc, under the leadership of the Party, to protect the independence, sovereignty and sacred territorial integrity of the Fatherland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Tran Viet Truong - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City respectfully acknowledged and highly appreciated the activity of displaying valuable images and documents through the theme "Vietnamese lawyers with the sea and islands of the homeland".

At the same time, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City affirmed that this is an activity with many practical meanings, contributing to raising awareness for cadres, party members and people of all walks of life in the city about the important role and position of Vietnam's seas and islands, contributing to arousing the tradition of patriotism, sense of national pride and self-respect, strengthening education on revolutionary traditions, further enhancing the sense of responsibility for the seas and islands of the homeland of every Vietnamese person in general and of Can Tho City people in particular.
