Opening of Cat Ba tourism season in 2024

On the evening of March 31st, in the Cat Ba archipelago, the People's Committee of Cat Hai district ( Hai Phong ) organized the art program "Green Cat Ba 2024".

The program is a highlight of the festival commemorating the 65th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Cat Hai, marking the opening of Cat Ba tourism in 2024. It also celebrates the 65th anniversary of the traditional day of the Vietnamese fisheries industry; commemorates the 69th anniversary of the liberation of Hai Phong; and is in response to the Red Phoenix Flower Festival - Hai Phong 2024.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Hai District, Bui Tuan Manh, stated that 65 years ago, on March 31, 1959, beloved President Ho Chi Minh visited the military and people of Cat Hai District. This event demonstrated the President's concern for the people and soldiers on the frontline islands of the Fatherland. His admonition regarding the sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands, "Our golden forests and silver seas belong to our people," has become a truth and remains relevant to this day. His image and affectionate words remain with the mountains, forests, and islands here, becoming a driving force for the officials and people of Cat Hai in the work of protecting, building, and developing the island district.

For the past 65 years, whether amidst the fierce battles of war or during the period of reform, integration, and development, the Party Committee, government, military, and people of Cat Hai district have always bravely and tenaciously fought to protect the island; at the same time, they have been dynamic and creative in the construction and development of their homeland, transforming Cat Hai from a desolate island district with only sand and rocks into a key maritime economic hub of Hai Phong city and the northern provinces. The 2024 Cat Hai District Traditional Festival program, with its 10 activities, represents the 10 most beautiful flowers in the garden of learning and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh, offered by the Party Committee, government, and people of Cat Hai district to the beloved President Ho Chi Minh.

According to Mr. Bui Tuan Manh, the Cat Ba archipelago has received many accolades, including being recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve in 2004; being recognized by the Prime Minister as a Special National Monument of Scenic Landscapes in 2013; and Lan Ha Bay being recognized as a member of the Association of the World's Most Beautiful Bays in 2020. On September 16, 2023, the Cat Ba archipelago, along with Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh), was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site. This is also the first inter-provincial/city World Natural Heritage Site in Vietnam.

Mr. Bui Tien Manh affirmed that in recent years, Cat Ba has developed unique, distinctive, high-quality tourism products that attract visitors, and is on a path to renewing its image, enhancing its position and competitiveness. The opening ceremony of Cat Ba tourism in 2024 is a particularly important event, a message and a respectful invitation to domestic and international tourists to come to Cat Ba to explore and enjoy the priceless gifts that nature has bestowed upon humanity. Cat Ba, a year-round destination, is ready to welcome visitors with open arms.

Immediately following the opening ceremony was the "Green Cat Ba 2024" art program. The program consisted of three parts: Hai Phong, the city I love; Cat Hai - Leaving the footprints of the Great Leader; and Cat Ba - A meeting place for all four seasons. The art program featured famous singers such as Dam Vinh Hung, Trong Tan, and Ho Trung Dung. In addition to the stage at the Cat Ba Tourism Center, the program was broadcast live by Hai Phong Radio and Television Station and re-broadcast live by 20 local radio and television stations from North to South.

The festival also includes other activities such as: Hot Air Balloon Festival, Fastest X Cat Ba Amatina Race, and the Cat Hai District Dragon Boat Race (expanded) for the Hai Phong Newspaper Cup.
