According to Mehr News Agency (Iran) on September 2, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi expressed hope that the nuclear agreement with Iran, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), will be restored to ensure that the country's nuclear activities are peaceful.

Rafael Grossi said he had received a response from new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, signaling the potential for a resumption of dialogue to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities.
IAEA Director General Grossi stressed the need for increased transparency and cooperation, especially in the context of Iran's evolving nuclear capabilities.
Earlier, Mr. Grossi expressed hope that his upcoming visit to Iran could facilitate constructive negotiations leading to concrete results.
Grossi also addressed the broader issues of nuclear proliferation and the role of the IAEA in reducing the risk of nuclear escalation, particularly in areas of heightened tension. He also highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and the need for international cooperation to effectively address these challenges.
The head of the IAEA highlighted ongoing concerns related to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, in particular the risks to nuclear power plants located near war zones.
Mr. Grossi stressed the IAEA’s commitment to ensuring the safety of these facilities, despite challenges and uncertainties; the importance of impartiality, noting that the agency’s assessments are based only on independently verified information to avoid politicization.
On Saudi Arabia's nuclear ambitions, he affirmed the IAEA's role in ensuring that any future developments in the Kingdom's nuclear program would comply with international safeguards and non-proliferation standards.
