On the morning of March 30, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations (Hanoi), the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Literature and Arts Creation in collaboration with the Literature and Arts Times held a press conference to launch the painting contest to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024) called "Hooray for Dien Bien soldiers".
Attending the press conference were Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut, Director of the Department of Culture and Arts, Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Pham Gia Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Press and Publishing, Central Propaganda Department; Associate Professor, Doctor, Musician Do Hong Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee, President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations; Dr. Doan Thanh No, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, President of the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Literature and Arts Creation; Major General, musician Duc Trinh, President of the Vietnam Musicians Association; Art critic Mai Thi Ngoc Oanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association; Journalist, Artist Ho Si Minh, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists; Writer, journalist Hoang Du, Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Times; along with members of the contest's Jury and a large number of reporters.
Speaking at the opening of the press conference, Dr. Doan Thanh No, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, President of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Creation Support Fund, said that, implementing Instruction No. 69-HD/BTGTW dated September 20, 2022 of the Central Propaganda Department on organizing activities to celebrate major holidays and important historical events in the 3 years 2023-2025, the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations assigned the Vietnam Literature and Arts Creation Support Fund to coordinate with the Literature and Arts Times to co-organize the Painting Contest with the theme "Hooray for Dien Bien soldiers" .
According to Dr. Doan Thanh No, this contest is not only an opportunity for authors, especially students, to show their talent and creativity, but also an opportunity for young authors to gain a deeper understanding of the history and tradition of the nation's struggle to build and defend the country.
The contest is part of a series of practical and meaningful activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory with the aim of propagating and educating the tradition of patriotism, national pride, and gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation, for the independence, freedom and happiness of the people. From there, it will give wings to the creativity and rich imagination of young artists about a powerful Vietnam and the beautiful homeland of Dien Bien Phu , the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations emphasized.
Sharing about the meaning of the contest, writer and journalist Hoang Du, Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Times, said that the painting contest “Hoan Ho Chi Minh Chien Si Dien Bien” is a very “open” topic, creating conditions for children to freely imagine and create, but still focusing on useful and interesting topics to help arouse love for the homeland and foster historical values.
Through the contest, students have the opportunity to learn about the history of Dien Bien Phu through books, newspapers, poems, etc., and freely express their artistic talent, creativity and thoughts, becoming a strong source of inspiration for their peers and spreading to the community about a bright future of the heroic land of Dien Bien. This is also an opportunity for students with artistic talent to develop and nurture their talents and create motivation to study and create.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Musician Do Hong Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, also affirmed that this is a meaningful contest on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, when the whole country is looking towards that important milestone, the contest being launched is an activity that deserves to be recognized and highly appreciated.
The contest chose painting as an art form to help children express their understanding, thoughts, and feelings about the Dien Bien Phu Victory that “resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world”. The contest contributed to educating students’ aesthetic awareness, fostering their feelings and love for the country and the history of the nation.
Through the contest, students will discover the colorful beauty of life through their innocent and pure perspectives. They can understand that "Hooray for Dien Bien soldiers" is not only to pay tribute to the soldiers who fought on the front lines in the past, but also to the soldiers of today, who are contributing to building their homeland and country every day, said the President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations.

According to artist Dinh Quang Tinh, the special thing about the contest is that information technology is applied professionally and systematically to encode data about authors and works, helping contestants quickly access accurate information about the contest and the Organizing Committee, the Jury, and the Board of Judges. At the same time, information technology contributes to transparency and fairness in the judging process, helping the Board of Judges classify and detect works that violate the contest regulations.
The finalists are expected to be displayed at the Hanoi Opera House, Hanoi Children's Palace of Culture...
In particular, the winners will visit and display their paintings at Thanh Chuong Viet Palace - a massive installation art work, an architectural "museum" bearing the imprint of the Vietnamese soul. Coming here, the students will have the opportunity to explore the beauty of traditional culture and contemplate the historical values of the nation; visit Thanh Chuong Painting Museum named "Living in Art" (Art of Human Life), take souvenir photos with the artist and the Jury, helping them to be more confident and passionate about painting.
The Organizing Committee will continue to accept entries until April 20, 2024 (according to the postmark). The Closing and Award Ceremony is scheduled to be held on April 28, 2024 at the Hanoi Opera House.
Prize structure includes: 1 special prize for the contestant with an impressive work that clearly shows a passion for painting; 3 First Prizes (preschool, primary, secondary) each worth 30 million VND; 3 Second Prizes (preschool, primary, secondary) each worth 20 million VND; 3 Third Prizes (preschool, primary, secondary) each worth 10 million VND; 70 Consolation Prizes, each worth 500 thousand VND; 1 prize for the unit with the largest number of entries worth 2 million VND; 12 paintings used for the 2025 calendar are worth 500 thousand VND/work; 70 winning paintings will be gifts for localities, units, businesses and Dien Bien province. |
