According to information from the organizing committee of the World Print Media Summit, the Dien Bien Phu Victory panorama project of Nhan Dan newspaper will be awarded the "Outstanding Product for Young Readers" award at the World Print Media Summit on October 9 in Vienna (Austria).
Evaluating this project, the judges all affirmed the originality and creativity of the creators. According to the jury members, the special issue of Nhan Dan newspaper has solved the important task of conveying information about the country's historical period in a new and creative way, connecting the next generation with the past, thereby attracting young readers.
Last May, the panorama painting project about Dien Bien Phu Victory made a strong impression on the community.
Specifically, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), Nhan Dan newspaper organized a special information campaign about the event with elaborate, methodical and thorough preparation for nearly half a year, including a number of main sections: Building a special page on Dien Bien Phu Victory; organizing many series of articles commemorating the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory; creating interactive effects on panorama paintings in Nhan Dan newspaper issue on May 7, 2024 and an interactive exhibition of panorama paintings of Dien Bien Phu Victory in Hanoi and Dien Bien province.
In that series of events, the special supplement with panorama pictures about the Dien Bien Phu Victory was warmly received by hundreds of thousands of readers nationwide.
From 4 printed pages of the picture in the newspaper, readers cut and combined them into a 3.21 m long panorama of “Dien Bien Phu Victory”. There are more than 200 different articles published about events related to this project. And after a week of the historic event of May 7th, the demand for this publication has not stopped. Nhan Dan Newspaper has decided to print 100,000 more copies of the supplement from social sources to respond to readers’ expectations.
Along with that, in just one week, the interactive exhibition of Dien Bien Phu Victory panorama by Nhan Dan newspaper took place simultaneously in Hanoi and Dien Bien and attracted nearly 30,000 visitors. The project is the highlight of the special information campaign about Dien Bien Phu Victory. The exhibition displays a panorama painting surrounding a circle with a diameter of 5.5 m, a height of more than 3 m and an experience of augmented reality technology with a 360-degree panorama model.
Comrade Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association shared: “The launch of an electronic page about the Dien Bien Phu victory with the idea of following the progress of the campaign for 56 days is a unique creation. However, the implementation team was still not satisfied because the daily printed newspaper is the core product of Nhan Dan Newspaper. Therefore, the idea of a special page and a printed panorama was born right after that. The team wanted to create more surprises for readers by integrating interactive features for visitors to experience expanded content. This is an effort of innovation but also the responsibility of the leading Party newspaper of the Vietnamese revolutionary press in the propaganda work about important events of the country”.
With a creative, close, vivid visual approach, the panorama supplement about the Dien Bien Phu Victory, Nhan Dan newspaper has suggested ways for printed newspapers to increase their competitiveness with other forms of multimedia communication.
