The ceremony took place on November 23, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Secretary of Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee Le Truong Luu, along with UNESCO representative in Vietnam, Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker, and many other ministries and branches.

Cultural and historical value

Here, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Van Phuong emphasized the position of Hue as the first locality in Vietnam to be recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage with the Complex of Hue Monuments in 1993.

"The reliefs on the nine bronze cauldrons" were completed under the reign of King Minh Mang from 1835 to 1837, and are a pictorial encyclopedia of Vietnam at that time. These reliefs were recognized as national treasures in 2012. UNESCO's recognition of this heritage not only affirms the historical value of the Nine Cauldrons but also enhances the position of Thua Thien Hue with 8 heritages recognized by UNESCO.

According to Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker, representative of UNESCO, emphasized that the World Documentary Heritage is the common property of humanity and needs to be preserved in its entirety. The bronze castings on the Nine Tripod Cauldrons not only reflect the cultural values of Vietnam but also demonstrate the cultural exchange between East Asian cultures.

Preserve and promote heritage values

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong said that the conservation of Hue cultural heritage has entered a phase of stability and sustainable development. Thua Thien Hue not only plays an important role in conservation but has also become a standard center in the Asia-Pacific region for conservation technology transfer.

Within the framework of the event, Thua Thien Hue announced the completion of the "Project for the overall conservation and restoration of Thai Hoa Palace", an important project in the Imperial City and Forbidden City area of Hue Imperial City. This project was started in November 2021 and completed 9 months ahead of schedule, with a total investment of nearly 129 billion VND.

Thai Hoa Palace, where the coronation ceremonies of 13 Nguyen Dynasty emperors were held, has gone through many historical events and has seriously degraded. The restoration of Thai Hoa Palace is not only an urgent task but also demonstrates great efforts from domestic and foreign organizations, as well as support from UNESCO.

Hue’s cultural heritage is facing many challenges, especially the impacts of climate change. Mr. Baker called for the active participation of the community, especially young people, in the work of protecting and promoting the value of the heritage.

Thua Thien Hue Province is committed to continuing to synchronously and effectively implement cultural heritage conservation programs, aiming to revitalize heritage. Completing conservation projects not only enhances the value of heritage but also contributes to the socio-economic development of the locality.

The event not only marks an important step forward in the work of preserving cultural heritage in Hue but also affirms the position and vision of the Province in preserving and promoting the value of Vietnam's cultural heritage in the international arena.

Hue, with its valuable heritages, will continue to be an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists and cultural researchers.
