Gia Thanh persimmon is a seedless persimmon variety with large, yellow-green fruit that is plump and round when ripe. When cut in half, the core of Gia Thanh persimmon is star-shaped, crunchy, and sweet. This year, thanks to favorable weather and proper care, Gia Thanh persimmons have grown well, with a good harvest in both yield and quality, and the fruit is more even and beautiful than last year.
Gia Thanh persimmon harvest time is from mid-August to mid-September every year. At this time, on the roads, vehicles are bustling in and out to buy persimmons and then distribute them to places inside and outside the province. Currently, gardeners have received orders from traders.
Currently, Gia Thanh commune has 265 hectares of persimmon land, of which nearly 80 hectares have been harvested, with an estimated fruit yield of over 500 tons, an increase of 50% over the previous year. Realizing that persimmon trees bring high economic efficiency, contributing to increasing income and sustainable poverty reduction, every year the Party Committee and the government of Gia Thanh commune include seedless persimmons in the specialized Resolution on local economic development. In 2020, Gia Thanh seedless persimmons officially completed product safety certification and private labeling. To date, Gia Thanh persimmons have achieved 4-star OCOP standards.
In order to preserve and develop the Gia Thanh persimmon specialty brand, in recent years, the People's Committee of Phu Ninh district has built a model of planting and intensive cultivation of Gia Thanh persimmon on sloping hills and inefficient areas. Organize training on techniques for planting and caring for persimmon trees, and at the same time, develop a policy to support prices for tree varieties and care techniques for new and large-scale farmers.
In addition, continue to select excellent rose varieties and original varieties and develop policies to preserve and protect them as a long-term source of seeds for production, especially distributing seeds to other communes with suitable soil conditions for expansion...
In addition to Gia Thanh commune, communes with large persimmon areas are Tri Quan, Bao Thanh, Lien Hoa, Phu Loc... In 2024, the total output of Gia Thanh persimmons in Phu Ninh district is estimated to reach about 2,000 tons. Prices range from 35,000 - 55,000 VND/kg depending on weight and design, an increase of about 30-40% compared to 2023.
