In the context of information technology (IT) becoming an important and irreplaceable factor in most fields, there are many career opportunities for the workforce in this industry.
On March 28, Quang Trung Software Park Development Company Limited (QTSC) in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Support and Consulting Center (DXCenter) organized a seminar on future IT industry trends and career opportunities for IT students.
The workshop was attended by more than 700 IT students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long, and Can Tho.
Attractive job opportunities
With the theme “Leading the trend – Firmly stepping into the future”, representatives of IT enterprises shared new technology trends, knowledge and skills needed to improve career opportunities for students.
According to a report by TopCv Vietnam, in 2023, about 41.79% of enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi will achieve 100% of their recruitment targets. The potential for recruitment demand in the two main labor markets is still very large, with recruitment expanding in many industry groups.
Of which, the sales business sector has the highest proportion (39.3%), followed by IT - software (13.3%), Marketing - advertising (12%).
The recruitment needs of businesses in 2024 tend to increase in the proportion of "human resource-hungry" industries, such as: Sales, IT - software... to serve the goals of promoting business and expanding production.
Currently, up to 61.1% of workers are ready to consider new job opportunities or actively looking for work, showing that the labor supply in the market still exists, but there is a different distribution depending on the industry group.
“The strong development of AI creates fierce competition, conflicting discussions, and diverse opinions of workers depending on the industry and level. To adapt, workers should improve their professional knowledge and soft skills in their field. Constantly update industry trends to create changes, breakthrough innovations, and personalization. Continuously learn about AI and apply it to work, with the goal of becoming a support for themselves,” said Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh Thu, representative of TopCV Vietnam.
The rate of skilled labor is still low.
Mr. Thai Hoang Danh, representative of LARION Software Development and Consulting Joint Stock Company, forecasted that by 2026, about 80% of businesses will employ human resources in the Generative AI industry group (innovation in the field of AI) and will have a significant growth rate compared to 2023 (only 5%).
Cyber Security And Privacy, with the increase in cyber attacks, security and privacy will continue to be one of the important trends. Many companies are investing in effective security solutions to protect data and information.
In addition, the Eco Tech trend - green and environmentally friendly technology solutions will be increasingly prioritized and focused on.
“Each year, Vietnam has up to 16,000 IT students graduating, but most of them have to be retrained for at least 3-6 months to meet the needs of businesses. The rate of highly skilled workers is only about 11.67%, workers with foreign language skills are 5%, and R&D human resources are about 1.5/1000. The increase in students and experts graduating from IT training schools is creating fierce competition for jobs,” said Mr. Thai Hoang Danh.
Ms. Pham Thi Kim Phuong, Deputy Director of QTSC, hopes that through the workshop, students will be able to identify their career development direction in the technology field, equip themselves with more skills and knowledge necessary to improve themselves, and be ready to become technology experts in the future. For IT businesses, the workshop is also one of the activities that connects communities, providing opportunities for businesses to approach and understand the current situation of new human resources to build effective recruitment programs, develop quality human resources, and meet the development requirements of businesses.
Staying ahead of new trends such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, big data, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT)… not only helps students grasp many new opportunities but also creates a competitive advantage for both employers and employees.
