To celebrate the 100th birthday of musician Van Cao (1923-2023), the Vietnam Musicians Association in collaboration with the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, and Vietnam Television organized a program to honor the musician. The performance, titled Vietnamese Birds , took place at 8:00 p.m. on August 20 at the Hanoi Opera House and was broadcast live on VTV1.

The program is a collection of Van Cao’s famous works in all three genres: Love songs, marches and epics. These include Thien Thai, Buon Tan Thu, Truong Chi, Lang Toi, Mua Xuan Dau Dau, Truong Ca Song Lo, Tien Ve Ha Noi, Chien Si Viet Nam… The special highlight of the program is the musical reenactment of the song Tien Quan Ca at 19/8 Square (in front of the Hanoi Opera House).

Sharing with the press on the morning of August 3 in Hanoi, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association Nguyen Duc Trinh emphasized: " The Vietnamese Birds Music Night goes beyond a regular art program, it is an art event for fans and people to remember the portrait of a talented artist in many fields of literature and art. Van Cao's creative talent as well as his artistic achievements, especially the song Tien Quan Ca - Vietnam's National Anthem, have enriched the national art treasure."
Musician Van Cao was born on November 15, 1923 in Hai Phong. He became a soldier of the Viet Minh Honor Guard when he was only 22 years old. Before that, the public knew Van Cao for his love songs, famous in the Vietnamese modern music scene in the late 1930s and a talented person with romantic poetry and music.
When mentioning Van Cao, every Vietnamese citizen, even though they may not know all his songs, know all his poems and admire all his paintings, can certainly sing Van Cao's Tien Quan Ca to express their love for the Fatherland.

On August 17, 1945, the song Tien Quan Ca was first played in front of a large crowd at the Hanoi Opera House Square and became known as the National Anthem of the young Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The National Anthem for a nation in the midst of a revolution to change its destiny and Van Cao was the author of that National Anthem.
Also from those August days, the name of Musician Van Cao is forever associated with the history of music and the history of the Vietnamese people as a great talent, full of dignity. His presence in the Vietnamese literature and art has brought not only valuable works, his personality is also the property of a generation of patriots, full of ideals and devoted to the Independence of the nation.
He was awarded the First Class Resistance Medal, First Class Independence Medal, Ho Chi Minh Medal, and the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts, Phase I (1996) by the Party and State. He passed away on July 10, 1995.
