46 years after the war to protect the northern border, the lands once soaked in the blood of our ancestors now have a new look. The strong revival is not only reflected in solid concrete roads and bustling urban areas, but also in the spirit of the people of the border to rise up and build a prosperous and peaceful life.
As the frontline in the war to protect the northern border in 1979, Lang Son suffered heavy losses. Decades after the war, the fierce traces are still present in many places, especially at Dong Dang Fortress, one of the locations where the war started on February 17, 1979.
Now, looking down from the height of 339, Dong Dang town looks like a charming landscape painting. High-rise buildings in the neighborhoods, on the hillsides are interspersed with peach trees blooming in the spring. The streets are bright red with flags and flowers. Restaurants, eateries, entertainment and shopping spots are springing up more and more. Markets and shopping centers sell day and night, creating a bustling, bustling atmosphere, attracting tourists from near and far...

VNA quoted Chairman of Dong Dang Town People's Committee Sai Vinh Chung as saying that with its favorable location as a border town, there are key traffic routes such as Hanoi - Lang Son Railway, National Highways 1A, 1B, National Highway 4A running through the area. Currently, there are 3 important key projects passing through the area: Huu Nghi - Chi Lang Border Gate Expressway Project, expected to be put into operation in 2025; the project to expand the specialized freight transport route at milestones 1119-1120 of Huu Nghi International Border Gate and the project to renovate Dong Dang International Railway Station. When these projects are completed and put into operation, they will open up development opportunities and breakthroughs for the locality, especially in goods trading, service development and trade. Along with that, Dong Dang Town also has the potential to develop border tourism and border gate tours; Spiritual tourism, historical and cultural tourism with Dong Dang Mau Temple, Dong Dang Fortress... famous throughout the country and located in the itinerary and destination of Lang Son Geopark tourist route...
Thanks to the mobilization of resources from the Central and the province; effectively exploiting potentials and strengths, Dong Dang town has accelerated its strong economic, socio-cultural development, and is stable in national defense and security. Trade, service and tourism activities have developed. In 2024, the state budget revenue reached more than 1 billion VND, equal to 130% of the plan. It is estimated that more than 70,000 domestic and international visitors will come to Dong Dang for tourism and sightseeing. Average income per capita is about 50-55 million VND/person/year.

After the war, Cao Bang made great efforts to rebuild and grow strongly. The province identified border gate economy and tourism economy as two spearheads of development. The province's three key border gates, including Ta Lung, Tra Linh and Soc Giang, are increasingly bustling with import and export activities. In 2024, Cao Bang's total import and export turnover reached 952.18 million USD, with key products such as seafood, vegetables, wood, minerals, machinery and equipment, etc.
Not only developing the economy, Cao Bang also takes advantage of its tourism potential, especially tours to explore the border and historical sites. Newly opened routes help connect famous attractions such as Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave, along with historical sites associated with the war to protect the border.

Ha Giang is a place that suffered many sacrifices and losses in the war to protect the northern border. During the period 1979 - 1989, more than 4,000 officers and soldiers heroically fell on this fierce battlefield. Vi Xuyen, the fierce hot spot of the past, is now growing strongly.
Since 2011, Ha Giang has implemented the National Target Program on New Rural Development, transforming border communes from poor areas into prosperous countrysides. The greatest success of this Program is the synchronous and expanded concrete rural traffic system. All communes and towns have car roads to the center; 100% of communes and towns have national grid electricity... Vi Xuyen district also organized competitions to build model roads and model cultural houses in 24 communes and towns, awarded prizes and commended localities with high achievements.
In addition, Ha Giang also develops source tourism, attracting tourists to visit Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetery, Vi Xuyen Front Heroes' Martyrs' Temple, relics such as Bat Cave, Lang Lo Cave, military medical station area in Thanh Son village...
