On the evening of March 10, in Hung Yen, the Vietnam Football Federation opened the final round of the National U17 Football Tournament - Thai Son Nam Cup 2023. This year's tournament brings together 12 teams that have passed the qualifying round, including: PVF, Viettel, Song Lam Nghe An, Hanoi, Hue, SHB Da Nang, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Thap. The tournament takes place from March 10 to 21 at the PVF Youth Football Training Center (Hung Yen) and Thanh Tri Stadium (Hanoi).
The opening match between Hoang Anh Gia Lai and PVF was a one-sided affair. At the end of the match, Hoang Anh Gia Lai shockingly lost to their opponent with a score of 0-5. The results of the previous matches included: Hue beat Dong Thap 3-0, Song Lam Nghe An beat Khanh Hoa 7-0, Binh Phuoc drew Hong Linh Ha Tinh 2-2, Viettel beat Ho Chi Minh City 3-1.
According to the format, 12 teams are divided into 3 groups, including: Group A-PVF, SHB Da Nang, Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Hanoi; Group B-Hue, Song Lam Nghe An, Khanh Hoa, Dong Thap; Group C-Hong Linh Ha Tinh, Binh Phuoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Viettel . The teams compete in a round-robin format in each group to calculate points, rank and select 3 first-place teams, 3 second-place teams and 2 third-place teams to enter the quarter-finals.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tran Anh Tu, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation, said: “In recent years, Vietnam's youth football teams have performed impressively in continental competitions. To achieve that result, the foundation of national youth football tournaments is increasingly being invested in by the Vietnam Football Federation. I believe that the final round of the National U17 Football Tournament - Thai Son Nam Cup 2023 will be exciting and dramatic, discovering and nurturing quality young talents for the national football teams towards the goals ahead.”
